Honouring the Winter Solstice: A Season to Pause
There’s a stillness to winter that can’t be found any other time of year.
The world softens — snow blankets the ground, the trees stand bare, and the air holds a certain hush. Nature has exhaled. The busy work of growth has paused. And beneath that quiet, something tender and unseen is beginning.
This Winter Solstice, the Follow the Light magazine was meant to be released. Instead, I chose to honour what this season truly asks of us — to pause, to be present, and to tend to what matters most. After the loss of my aunt and a season filled with much emotion and transition, I needed to step back and allow myself to simply experience this time, rather than move through it too quickly.
Winter calls us inward. It’s not the season of doing, but of being.
In the Celtic tradition, winter belongs to the North — the direction of wisdom, silence, and the unseen realms. It’s a time to sit with what is, to listen beneath the noise, and to honour the fertile void before the first signs of spring.
This is the season to rest — not because we’ve earned it, but because we need it. To restore. To reflect. To tend to the soul’s roots.
Just as seeds lie dormant beneath the frozen soil, our own dreams and visions are quietly forming. We may not see them yet, but something within is stirring… gently taking shape.
What if winter is not an ending, but a beginning disguised as stillness?
May this be a season where you grant yourself permission to slow down. To trust the wisdom that comes in the dark. To curl inward, light a candle, and simply be.
Your soul knows the way. Even in the quiet, it is guiding you.
On this, the longest night of the year, may you trust your inner knowing and do what feels good for your soul.
With love and light,
Wanda ✨
P.S. The Winter Solstice issue of Follow the Light will arrive in its own perfect timing, just as the season unfolds.
