Spiritual Care Associate

Mount St. Joseph Nursing Home is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Spiritual Care Associate to support the spiritual, emotional, and religious well-being of residents, families, and staff.
Position Summary

The Spiritual Care Provider offers presence, listening, prayer, ritual, and reflective support to residents and their loved ones, particularly during times of illness, transition, grief, and end-of-life. Care is provided in a respectful and inclusive manner that honours diverse beliefs, traditions, and spiritual expressions, consistent with the mission and values of Mount St. Joseph.

Key Responsibilities
•Provide one-to-one spiritual and emotional support to residents and families.
•Respond sensitively to spiritual distress and end-of-life needs.
•Be respectful of the residents’ wishes, offer prayer, ritual, or sacramental support, on a voluntary basis.
•Maintain a visible and supportive presence within the home.
•Coordinate spiritual services or observances as appropriate.
•Facilitate access to community clergy or faith leaders when requested.
•Support staff experiencing grief or emotional strain related to resident care.
•Document spiritual care interactions in accordance with facility practices and privacy requirements.

Hours of Work
Specific days to be determined by mutual agreement. Occasional flexibility may be required to respond to resident or family needs.

Qualifications
•Preference will be given to applicants with education or experience in spiritual care, theology, ministry, pastoral studies, clinical Psychospiritual counselling, or a related field.
•Endorsement or standing with a recognized faith group, or demonstrated experience providing interfaith spiritual care.
•Strong interpersonal, listening, and communication skills.
•Ability to work independently and maintain professional boundaries.
•Respect for diversity of belief and commitment to compassionate care.

Recreation Director (Temporary Position)

Position Type: Temporary, Full-Time

Duration: [e.g. Up to 12 months / Until return of incumbent]

Reports To: Executive Director

Position Summary

The Recreation Director (Temporary) is responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing recreational, social, and therapeutic programs that promote the physical, emotional, social, and cognitive well-being of residents. This position plays a key role in enhancing residents' quality of life while ensuring programs are delivered in accordance with provincial standards and facility policies.

Key Responsibilities

· Plan, organize, implement, and evaluate recreation and leisure programs tailored to resident needs and abilities

· Develop and maintain monthly activity calendars

· Supervise, support, and schedule recreation staff and volunteers

· Coordinate special events, seasonal activities, and community engagement initiatives

· Collaborate with nursing and interdisciplinary teams to support individualized care plans

· Maintain accurate documentation, participation records, and required reports

· Ensure compliance with infection control practices, safety standards, and organizational policies

· Manage recreation supplies and operate within approved budgets

Qualifications

· Diploma or degree in Recreation, Therapeutic Recreation, Gerontology, or a related field (or equivalent experience)

· Experience in a long-term care, nursing home, or adult residential setting considered an asset

· Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills

· Ability to work effectively with residents, families, staff, and volunteers

· CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)

· Clear Vulnerable Sector Check required

· Strong time management and organizational skills

· Ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team

Sunny Corner Enterprises recently built a trailer, sold tickets on it, and generously chose to donate the proceeds to support our residents and facility. We would also like to thank Jeremy Walsh of Sunny Corner Enterprises, who personally dropped off the cheque.

We are selling tickets on a beautiful handmade wreath to raise money for Mount Saint Joseph’s recreation department! Tickets will be 1-$2 or 3-$5. Draw date will be December 12th! If interested in purchasing tickets they are being sold in the recreation room on the 2nd floor. All proceeds go towards putting on different activities for the residents.
