The Lab - Movement & Sports Med. Comprehensive injury management for the athlete in sport and life

Massage therapy can be a valuable part of the rehab process.

When recovering from an injury, progress often comes from using the right combination of care. Massage therapy can help reduce muscle tension, improve circulation, and support mobility around the affected area.

At The Lab, massage therapists work alongside physiotherapists, chiropractors, and sports medicine doctors. That means treatment plans can be coordinated so each part of care supports the next.

Massage can help prepare tissue for movement, support recovery between rehab sessions, and reduce restriction in surrounding muscles while the body heals.

Book with The Lab to see how massage therapy can fit into your rehab plan.

What is osteoarthritis, exactly?

It is one of the most common conditions seen in sports and exercise medicine. Inside your joints is a layer of smooth articular cartilage that helps the bones move against each other with less friction.

Over time, that cartilage can start to thin. As it wears down, the space in the joint becomes smaller, which can lead to stiffness, pain, and reduced movement. That process is what we call osteoarthritis.

Understanding what is happening inside the joint is the first step toward managing symptoms and staying active.

Book an assessment at The Lab if joint pain is affecting how you train or move.

Most training facilities and medical clinics operate separately.
At The Lab, they work together.

Our team training program operates alongside an 11 room clinic with more than 20 practitioners. Coaches and clinicians stay connected through regular roundtable meetings so everyone stays aligned and informed.

If an athlete comes in with something like a sprained ankle but still wants to train, coaches can connect with clinicians right away and adjust the session on the spot. That means training can still move forward while respecting the injury.

That kind of collaboration helps athletes keep progressing instead of sitting out.

Contact The Lab to ask about team training and see how this setup can support your athletes.

Pain is not always coming from where you feel it.

Osteopathic Manual Therapy at The Lab looks at how different areas of the body interact. Restrictions in the rib cage, spine, hips, or surrounding connective tissue can change how you breathe, load, and move. Over time, those compensations can show up as recurring pain or stiffness.

Our osteopathic care is anatomy based and assessment driven. We identify where motion is limited and use specific hands on techniques to restore mobility and reduce mechanical strain.

Because we work in a fully integrated sports medicine setting, findings can be coordinated with physio or performance training when needed.

If something keeps coming back or just feels off, book an osteopathic assessment and get a clearer understanding of what is driving it.

Not every physio session should start on the table.

At The Lab, physiotherapy starts by looking at how your body is moving in real time. Bending, rotation, breathing mechanics, spinal motion, it all tells a story.

From there, treatment is built around what shows up in the assessment, including hands-on techniques like active release when needed. Then we retest, so the change is not just explained, it is checked.

That process matters. Assess. Treat. Retest.

Book a physiotherapy assessment if something feels restricted, off, or harder than it should.

If you shoot predominantly one way, your body adapts to that pattern over time.

Rotation, rib positioning, and side bending all start to bias in the same direction. Over months and years, that repeated loading can show up as stiffness or one-sided low back pain.

This player came in with one-sided low back pain. The issue was not just the lumbar spine. The ribs on one side were compressed and not opening properly into side bend. When that segment cannot move, the stress shifts down into the low back.

You cannot treat the symptom without addressing the mechanics around it.

That is how we approach osteopathic care at The Lab: full system assessment, then targeted treatment.

If you are a hockey player dealing with recurring back tightness or asymmetry, book an osteopathic assessment and get a clear plan forward.

Feeling constantly tight or beat up from training?

Sports massage at The Lab is structured treatment designed to reduce soft tissue restriction and help your body handle workload more effectively. It is not passive care. Each session is based on assessment and focused on restoring movement quality.

We commonly address muscle tension, lingering soreness after lifts or games, restricted mobility, neck and shoulder strain, and the cumulative effects of repetitive training.

For many athletes and active adults, massage is a practical part of staying consistent and avoiding setbacks.

Book a sports massage session and give your body the maintenance it actually needs.

Sprinting after ACL surgery is not automatic.

Before we move an athlete from plyometrics into sprinting, there are three non-negotiables we look for.

First, knee extension strength. We want at least 90% limb symmetry for both max force and rate of force development, measured objectively using VALD systems.

Second, knee flexion strength. Same standard, 90% for max force and rate of force development.

Third, hop testing. We use the Cincinnati hop test and expect a minimum of 80% symmetry across the battery.

If an athlete checks all three boxes, we can confidently start progressing sprint work.

Rehab should be measured, not rushed.

If you are coming back from ACL surgery and want a structured return to sprint plan, book an assessment with our team.

Injured, frustrated, or stuck in a cycle of recurring pain?

Physiotherapy at The Lab starts with a full movement assessment, not just a quick look at where it hurts. We break down how you move, identify what is actually driving your symptoms, and build a plan that progresses with you.

We regularly help with acute injuries, stubborn strains, post surgical rehab, tendon and ligament issues, running injuries, and ongoing joint irritation.

What makes us different is what happens after pain settles. Because our physios work alongside our performance team, you are progressed back to real strength, real speed, and real sport demands in the same space.

If something is holding you back, book an assessment and get a plan that moves you forward.
