💙 January is Alzheimer’s Awareness Month

This month, we pause to raise awareness about Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, and to highlight the importance of brain health, safety, and community support.

The forget-me-not flower symbolizes Alzheimer’s awareness and represents memory and connection. At Peel Senior Link, we help seniors stay connected by doing the things they love, from gardening and recreational activities to social programs. We also offer educational opportunities in partnership with community organizations, giving seniors and caregivers access to valuable information and resources on brain health, wellness, and safety.

We're sharing this important Cervical Cancer Awareness Month message from Mississauga Health with our community.

Cervical cancer is one of the most preventable cancers – yet too many people are still being diagnosed late.

This Cervical Cancer Awareness Month, we’re encouraging everyone to take a simple step that can make a life-saving difference: get screened.

Cervical screening can find changes early, before they ever become cancer – often with no symptoms at all.

In Ontario, South Asian women are 33% less likely to be screened, and Black women face 2.6x higher odds of being underscreened. Everyone deserves access to this life-saving care.

HPV testing is now the main cervical screening method for most people. Learn what you’re eligible for at Cancer Care
Ontario. https://www.cancercareontario.ca/en

No family doctor? CarePoint Health’s Cancer Screening Clinic offers cervical, breast, and colon screening for Mississauga residents. https://www.carepointhealth.ca/patient-services/cancer%20screening

Caring for a family member or friend is an act of love, but it can also be tiring and emotionally demanding. Many caregivers give so much of themselves without taking time to pause.

At Peel Senior Link, we believe caregivers deserve support too. Our resources and programs are designed to help make the caregiving journey feel more manageable.

If you are a caregiver or know someone who is, visit our Caregiver Corner for helpful tools and information. And please reach out anytime. We are here to support you.

✨ 2025 Year in Review ✨

As we look back on 2025, our hearts are full with gratitude for a year shaped by creativity, connection, and meaningful milestones.

We began the year bringing participants, staff, and supervisors together through vision boards, winter art projects, Lunar New Year celebrations, Family Day crafts, and wellness activities focused on brain health and nutrition.

Spring and early summer bloomed with watercolour workshops, gardening, Earth Day activities, Seniors Month games, poetry, and community fairs that sparked joy and connection.

Between June and August, we shared a deeply emotional moment as we celebrated the retirement of our beloved former CEO, Ray Applebaum, after 26 years of dedicated service. His retirement celebration was filled with gratitude and memories. During this time, we also welcomed Samina Talat as our new CEO, bringing kindness, passion, and fresh energy to our organization.

Summer and fall were full of excitement, from Canada Day celebrations and summer art sessions to therapy dog visits, park outings, community fairs, and the inspiring Grand Parade “Creative Steps” fundraiser. September marked World Alzheimer’s Month, with important presentations on brain health, safety, and community wellness.

As the year came to a close, we celebrated National Seniors Day, welcomed The Vine Care as a new community partner, honoured Remembrance Day, and wrapped up the holidays with festive crafts, live music, hot cocoa, and heartfelt volunteer shout-outs.

💙 Thank you to our participants, staff, volunteers, partners, and community members who made 2025 so special. We’re excited to keep growing, creating, and connecting in 2026!

✨ Holiday Joy in Full Swing! ✨

Last week was filled with music, creativity, and wonderful moments across our homes. We were thrilled to welcome a live performer who shared Christmas classics and beloved oldies, filling the rooms at Hillside Place and Manorbridge with song, smiles, and plenty of sing-alongs. 🎶

We also enjoyed a variety of festive, hands-on activities, including:
🎨 Rudolph acrylic paintings on canvas
🎄 3D wooden tree painting and glittering
❄️ Red Cardinal in the Snow acrylic paintings
📬 Repurposing Christmas cards onto wooden signs
☃️ Mini tree decorations, snowmen, wreaths, and candy canes

Most of all, we are incredibly grateful to our amazing volunteers who support us all year long and played such a big role in making our holiday events so special. 💙
Thank you for helping us create warm memories and joyful moments for our clients this season.
