April is Parkinson Awareness Month. 🌷

Many older adults in our communities manage complex health conditions while still wanting to stay active, independent, and involved in everyday life. Parkinson's is one condition that can have ripple effects, not only for the individual but also for care partners who support them.

At Peel Senior Link, we focus on helping seniors stay connected, maintain independence at home, and access the resources they need. This month, we take a moment to recognize the resilience of those living with Parkinson's and the importance of community support.

An incredible resource from our partners at the Region of Peel. As our population continues to age, access to supports that help seniors remain safely at home and connected to their communities is more important than ever. Together, we can support our aging family members and neighbours to live with dignity, independence, and a sense of belonging.

Peel’s older adult population is growing rapidly and becoming increasingly diverse. The Older Adults Story Map brings together key demographic information in an interactive webpage to help older adults and the organizations that serve them better understand their communities. The story map is one of many tools from Peel Region, particularly Health Services and the Peel Data Centre, to help use, analyze and understand data.

With more than 212,000 residents aged 65+, nearly 1 in 5 Peel residents projected to be 65+ by 2051, and a growing older adult dependency ratio, the story map also highlights the top diverse languages spoken by older adults in Peel.

Spring into movement with Peel Senior Link! 🌷

We often hear how seniors haven't felt confident moving around since winter. That's why at Peel Senior Link, our exercise and balance classes are designed to meet seniors where they are, whether in-person or online.

Spring is a great time to re-engage safely, maintain strength, and stay connected with neighbours. Programs like the Seniors' Active Living Center (SALC) are about helping seniors feel independent, confident, and supported.

Happy Easter from all of us at Peel Senior Link. 🌷🐣

Holidays can look different for everyone. For some seniors, it might be a visit from family. For others, it's a phone call, a neighbour stopping by, or simply knowing someone is there to support them.

That sense of connection is at the heart of what we do at PSL, helping older adults live independently while staying part of the community around them.

Wishing everyone celebrating a peaceful and meaningful Easter weekend.

Client Story: Evelyn Adair

Evelyn has seen a fair bit of the world.

Originally hailing from Nova Scotia, she came to Ontario at the age of 18 – but didn’t stay put. Over the years, Evelyn has travelled far and wide, from Hawaii to Mexico, and even to Korea for the Olympics.

These days, Evelyn takes great pride in her home and garden, creating a place where her daughter and two grand children can visit and continue to make happy memories.

But after a lengthy hospital stay, Evelyn knew she needed some extra care. Fortunately, her daughter was able to arrange in-home care service through Peel Senior Link. The service has given both of them peace of mind to allow Evelyn to continue to live in her own home.

“It has been very important to me to live in my own home,” says Evelyn. “I have never liked the idea of living in a nursing home. Peel Senior Link has been instrumental in keeping me at home with as much independence as possible.”

Every day, Evelyn looks forward to her care team – “her ladies,” as she affectionately calls them – visiting her home. They help her with all the activities involved in daily living, but most importantly, they bring companionship, a familiar face, and laughter into her home.

“Getting older is not easy, but this wonderful group of people sees me and treats me with great respect and dignity.”

That support proved especially important in 2025, which Evelyn describes as a very difficult year. Through every challenge, the Peel Senior Link team was there, adjusting her care plan and providing steady support so she could continue living safely at home.

“They help me get through each day and give my family the peace of mind that I am safe. They go above and beyond to help me, and for this I am most grateful.”

Evelyn also shares a bit of wisdom that we could all benefit from listening to:
“Time passes by way faster than you think. Be kind to yourself and live life without regrets.”

At Peel Senior Link, we are passionate about helping seniors age safely and independently in the homes they love. For more information about our services, visit our website: https://lnkd.in/gUhmw26S

Something good is growing at Peel Senior Link!

We're excited to be featured in OACAO's Spring Newsletter with our article about our partnership with Food Banks Mississauga. We're helping seniors access nutritious meals and stay connected to their community because no one should feel left behind. 💛

Our programs, like Supports for Daily Living (SDL) and Stay Active, Stay Connected (SALC), offer exercise, wellness webinars, creative arts, and social programs that keep seniors active, safe, and engaged year-round, rain or shine!

By combining food security, safety, and social connection, we're building a community where seniors feel valued, supported, and at home.

Many participants tell us they look forward to our weekly activities because they help them feel safe, active, and connected to community.
