Known in the Himalayas as “white gold”, Himalayan Crystal Salt contains the same 84 natural minerals and elements found in the human body.
It is mined from the Khewra Salt Mines in Pakistan, situated at the foothills of the Himalayas. It is the second-largest salt mine in the world. Himalayan Crystal Salt is by far the purest salt available on earth and is uncontaminated with toxins or pollutants. In addition to sodium, Himalayan salt is relatively high in iron, magnesium, phosphorus, calcium, potassium and chloride. It also contains traces of boron, fluoride, iodine, zinc, selenium and copper, all of which are necessary for bodily health.
Himalayan salt is considered a healthy salt because no chemicals or additives are added to it, and it’s a naturally occurring substance. It is millions of years old and pure, untouched by many of the toxins and pollutants that pervade other forms of ocean salt.
Himalayan salt is used in Cooking and Seasoning too. It is an alternative to table salt. A quarter-teaspoon of Himalayan salt contains about 500 mg of sodium. You can use this salt a little bit more freely compared to the table salt, but still limit your consumption. While the American Heart Association recommends no more than 1,500 milligrams of sodium daily. An average American consumes about 5,000 milligrams, which is of course worrying.
