Not all low back pain is the same and treatment comfort may depend on the individual. 🧠🦴

This randomized crossover trial compared standard vs. modified flexed lumbopelvic spinal manipulation in adults with LBP. While overall comfort scores showed no significant difference between techniques, individual preferences emerged. Some participants felt notably more comfortable with one position over the other. Findings highlight the importance of personalized care and exploring subgroups to optimize manipulation strategies.

A large Ontario study found that a previous concussion is linked to a significantly higher risk of serious motor vehicle crashes. Over 3 million adults were followed for up to 20 years, and those with a concussion had a 49% greater crash risk compared to patients with ankle sprains. The risk was highest in the weeks after injury and increased with repeat concussions. These findings suggest extra caution and clear safety guidance after concussion. 🚗🧠

A new systematic review shows that breathing interventions may play a meaningful role in managing spinal pain. Across 20 studies, techniques like slow deep breathing, breathing awareness, and respiratory resistive breathing helped reduce pain and disability when added to usual care. Slow deep breathing showed the strongest benefits, while resistive breathing reduced pain when used alone. Tailoring breathing strategies to each patient may enhance outcomes in spinal pain treatment. 🌬️💙

A recent randomized controlled trial examined whether adding a nighttime orthosis improves outcomes after a cortisone injection for trigger finger. Results showed no added benefit- injections alone were just as effective as combined treatment. Overall, 68.9% of patients improved with conservative care.

Trigger finger grades reflect severity:
• Grade 1: pain and mild catching
• Grade 2: catching that can be released actively
• Grade 3: catching that requires the other hand to release

Grades 1–2 had ~75% success, while grade 3 had a higher chance of needing surgery.
