Midwives of Mississauga: MoM

Midwives of Mississauga: MoM MoM: a midwifery practice serving Mississauga for more than thirty years offering home and hospital birth with privileges at Trillium Health Partners.

Midwives respect pregnancy as a state of health and childbirth as a normal process. Midwives promote decision-making as a shared responsibility and encourage clients to actively participate in all aspects of their care. Midwives focus on the appropriate use of technology and preventing complications. Midwives respect and support clients so that they may give birth safely, with power and dignity. Registered Midwives are primary care providers. We provide comprehensive care for pregnant folks throughout normal pregnancy, labour and birth and for both birthing clients and their babies for 6 weeks following the birth. Midwifery care is fully funded by the Ministry of Health. Give birth at a hospital or at home and receive safe, skilled care from your midwife.

Posted • On the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we reflect on the tragic legacies and far-reaching impacts of the residential school system on Indigenous individuals, families and communities, and on the need to develop an equitable and culturally safe healthcare system for Indigenous Peoples.

PCMCH is committed to continuing meaningful discussions with Indigenous communities in Ontario to ensure the health needs of First Nation, Inuit and Métis pregnant individuals, newborns, children, youth and their families are met.

We encourage everyone to learn more about the residential school system and its impact on Indigenous communities by checking out the following resources on the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation website (nctr.ca):

Despite the recent headlines, ACOG has reaffirmed that acetaminophen (Tylenol) is safe to use during pregnancy when taken as directed. ✅ Studies show no link between Tylenol use in pregnancy and autism. Always follow dosing guidelines and talk with your provider if you have questions.

Our Story

Midwives of Mississauga (MoM) officially launches as an independent midwifery practice serving Mississauga, portions of West Etobicoke and South East Milton on June 1, 2018!!!

MoM grew from a group of four midwives who served the community to the West and North of Toronto starting in the 1980’s, to a group of almost thirty midwives who served Mississauga, Brampton and Halton Hills in 2018. In 2016, we recognized that we would much more effectively provide customized midwifery care to the families of Mississauga and surrounding areas, if we separated into a smaller practice focusing solely on the community that we were serving. MoM will continue to provide midwifery services from the Southcom Building at 2227 South Millway. The clinic is located in a bright sunny accessible first floor unit behind South Common Mall and is located centrally close to a Mississauga Transit Bus Terminal and the South Common Community Centre and Library. Midwives at MoM will continue to provide choice of home and hospital birth with hospital births taking place at either the Credit Valley or Mississauga Hospital sites of Trillium Health Partners. In our new role as a midwifery practice group focused on serving the families of our community we are much better positioned to integrate into initiatives within our Local Health Integration Network (Mississauga Halton LHIN) and our hospital (Trillium Health Partners). We look forward to strengthening and further developing partnerships within our community! We respect pregnancy as a state of health and childbirth as a normal process. We promote decision-making as a shared responsibility and encourage clients to actively participate in all aspects of their care. We focus on the appropriate use of technology and preventing complications. We respect and support clients so that they may give birth safely, with power and dignity. Registered Midwives are primary care providers, providing comprehensive care for women throughout normal pregnancy, labour and birth and for both pregnant clients and their babies for 6 weeks following the birth. Midwifery care is fully funded by the Ministry of Health. Give birth at a hospital or at home and receive safe, skilled care from your midwife.
