A recent Ontario conviction resulted in a $50,000 fine after a worker was injured during a hoisting operation involving a concrete streetlight post.

The investigation determined the crane operator did not hold proper training or sufficient competency as required under Ontario Regulation 213/91.

Under the OHSA, employers must ensure:

✔ Prescribed safety measures are implemented
✔ Hoisting procedures are carried out safely
✔ Supervisors verify qualifications before work begins
