Adoptive parents often face misconceptions and misunderstanding about their journey as parents in adoption. Adoption is not a one-time event, rather a lifelong journey parents are navigating with their child. Adoption comes with unique struggles and joys. It sprouts love and growth as new relationships are created between birth and adoptive families. Adoptive parents need our thoughtfulness and respect as they navigate their lifelong journey.

There are many misunderstandings about the experiences of adoptees, such as how they should feel about their adoption or how they will manage pieces of their story. Each adoptee is unique as is how they experience the adoption at various stages throughout their life. Adoption is a complex part of their story, a piece that takes time to process and understand. A piece that comes with mixed feelings and sometimes confusion. Adoptees need our kindness and patience as they navigate their lifelong journey.

Each birthparent is on their own journey and should be respected and honoured. Making an adoption plan is often one of the hardest choices a person makes.

An adoption plan takes time, hard work and commitment. Each of their stories is unique and comes from a place of love. Birth parents deserve our understanding and compassion as they navigate their lifelong journey.

Did you know that November is Adoption Awareness Month?

At JFJ Hope Centre, we see the courage and resilience of birth parents, adoptive parents, and adoptees. We recognize the adoption is a unique, complex and lifelong journey for all. This month we want to raise awareness by dispelling common adoption myths.

By replacing misinformation with knowledge, we can create understanding, grace and kindness towards those walking the adoption journey.
