Today we honour Microtia Awareness Day!
Microtia is a rare congenital condition where one or both ears don’t fully develop, often paired with hearing loss. Every year, hundreds of families begin a journey they never expected — but they’re not alone.
Microtia is a congenital deformity of the outer ear (pinna). It is often accompanied by atresia, which is the absence of an ear canal. These conditions occur in approximately 1 out of 9,000-12,000 births and results in conductive hearing loss. 70 percent of children with microtia also have atresia.
Let’s raise awareness, spread kindness, and celebrate the beauty of differences. 🧡
