💧 Dehydration, Muscle Tension & Tendon Pain – What You Need to Know!
Did you know that not drinking enough water can put extra stress on your tendons? When your muscles are dehydrated, they lose elasticity, becoming tighter...perhaps shorter and more prone to excess tension. This added strain pulls on your tendons, increasing the risk of inflammation, pain, and even injury.
🚨 How It Happens:
🔹 Muscles tighten due to dehydration, losing their ability to stretch and absorb movement efficiently.
🔹 This creates increased tension on the tendons, pulling them more than usual.
🔹 Over time, this can lead to inflammation at the musculotendinous junction (where the muscle meets the tendon).
🔹 The strain continues down to the tendon’s insertion point in the bone, leading to irritation, pain, and conditions like tendonitis or trigger finger.
💡 Stay Ahead of the Pain!
✅ Drink at least 2 liters of mineral water a day to keep muscles and tendons hydrated. The calcium, magnesium, and potassium found in mineral water can promote proper retention of water -- you're less likely to p*e it out right away.
✅ Stretch regularly to maintain flexibility and reduce tension.
✅ Seek treatment early if you notice stiffness, clicking, or pain in your tendons.
📅 Feeling the strain? Book an appointment at THFG today and let’s get your muscles and tendons moving properly again!

🤠💬 When "Trigger Finger" Gets Lost in Translation!

🗣 Patient: Hey Dr. Ben, I think I have trigger finger. My finger keeps locking up and clicking when I move it.

🗣 Dr. Ben: Ah yes, Trigger Finger—a classic western! Hot-tempered Jimmy Peters is tricked into drawing on Smoke Turner. Smoke’s actually alive, but now Jimmy’s on the run! Then Sam Benton, the Texas Hurricane, rides into town to—

🗣 Patient: …Doc, I’m talking about my actual finger, not a cowboy shootout.

🗣 Dr. Ben: Ohhh… right. Totally different thing. 😅

Turns out, trigger finger isn’t about duels at high noon—it’s a condition where your tendon becomes inflamed, making your finger stiff, painful, and even stuck in a bent position.

The good news? Treatment can help! With the right stretches, strengthening exercises, and therapy techniques, we can get your finger moving smoothly again—no cowboy hat required. 🤠

💡 Stay tuned… Tomorrow, Dr. Ben D'Easi will break down more details on this condition!

How Do Orthotics Actually Work? 🤔👣

Ever wonder what orthotics really do for your feet? It’s more than just cushioning!

Here’s how it works: When you take a step, one foot is planted while the other swings forward, carrying your body weight with it. As your weight shifts over the planted foot—moving from heel to arch to toes—your foot absorbs a lot of force in just a fraction of a second.

🔹 This is where orthotics step in! They provide the perfect balance of flexibility and support. As your foot bears weight, the orthotic compresses slightly to absorb impact but stays firm enough to guide your foot into a more efficient position.

✅ Reduces strain
✅ Improves alignment
✅ Enhances movement efficiency

Simply put, orthotics don’t just cushion your feet—they actively correct and optimize the way you walk! 👟✨

Need orthotics or want to know if they’re right for you? Book a consultation at THFG today! 2 Locations - Mississauga ☎️(905) 507-2772 & Etobicoke ☎️(416) 901-0262

Let’s Talk About Sciatica⚡ – It’s More Than Just a "Nerve Issue"

Have you ever been told you have “sciatica” because of pain shooting down your leg? While the term is often used to describe this type of pain, sciatica isn’t actually a diagnosis—it’s a symptom. And the truth is, there are many possible causes of leg pain that feel similar but require very different treatments.

Here are some common causes of pain that mimics sciatica:
👉 Disc Herniation: A bulging or herniated disc in the lower back can irritate or compress the sciatic nerve.
👉 Piriformis Syndrome: Tightness or spasm in the piriformis muscle can press on the sciatic nerve.
👉 Spinal Stenosis: Narrowing of the spaces in the spine can put pressure on the nerves.
👉 Referred Pain: Sometimes, pain isn’t nerve-related at all and instead comes from irritated muscles, joints, or ligaments.
👉 Other Nerve Conditions: Issues like peripheral neuropathy or nerve entrapments can also cause leg pain.

The key takeaway? Not all leg pain is "sciatica." Without a proper assessment, treating the wrong cause can delay recovery.

At THFG, we take the time to understand the root of your pain. With a thorough evaluation, we can identify what’s really going on and develop a treatment plan that targets the true cause of your symptoms—not just the symptom itself.

💡 If you’ve been struggling with leg pain, don’t settle for guessing. Let’s get to the bottom of it and help you move pain-free again. Book your consultation with THFG today! Call ☎️(905)-507-2772 Mississauga, and ☎️(416) 901-0262 Etobicoke

“Tennis elbow” isn’t just for tennis players! 🎾 In fact, less than 5% of those with tennis elbow actually play tennis. The condition usually stems from repetitive overuse, whether it’s from gym workouts or hours spent at the computer. 🧑‍💻 People often experience sharp pain on the outer part of the elbow, which worsens with actions like shaking hands or holding a cup of water.

While common advice includes stretches and exercises to strengthen the elbow, for many, the pain can be too severe to even attempt. Pushing through it might make things worse. 😖 Often, doctors resort to recommending corticosteroid injections 💉 which may offer temporary relief. Unfortunately, the pain tends to return once you resume daily activities, creating a cycle of discomfort that can last months or even years.

🚀 Here are some quick tips to ease your tennis elbow:

💥 Stay hydrated! Adding electrolytes helps your body retain water, improving muscle elasticity to better handle repetitive strain.

💥 Avoid sleeping with your arms flexed.

💥 Address the root cause. If the pain is linked to a specific sport or activity, work on improving your technique or ergonomic setup. For example, widen your grip—hold the body of a mug 🍻 instead of the handle.

💥 Do regular stretches. Tight forearm muscles increase tension on tendons, leading to tennis elbow.

💥 Treat yourself to a deep tissue massage or sports therapy. Overworked muscles need good blood flow to heal, and a high-quality massage can help.

💥 Use a counterforce brace to offload pressure from the tendon, offering immediate relief.

💥 When lifting (like taking groceries out of the car), use a palms-up grip instead of palms down to reduce strain.

💥 We have found that a combined 1-2 punch of Acupuncture and Physiotherapy has been very effective in treating tennis (and golfer's)
