A classic example of expectations vs. reality, recovery requires building a solid foundation for your body to operate at its best capacity.

Your recovery may not be complete overnight but it sure will keep you going for the long run. It may be a process but the reward is in the journey to healing💜

While they both share many similarities, there are key differences in their approach and treatment.

💜Scope of work: Chiropractors mainly focus on the spine whereas Osteopaths take a more holistic, ‘whole body’ approach, including respiratory and digestive problems.

💜Method of treatment: Chiropractors work on spinal adjustments with a bigger focus on joint-related issues while Osteopaths target a wider range of techniques.

💜Equipment used: Chiropractors are more reliant on diagnostic equipment such as x-rays and MRI scans to better analyze the spine while osteopaths use manual, “hands-on” techniques such as palpation.

The main goal of an osteopathic treatment is to give your body the capacity to rebalance itself.

Here’s a few tips to keep in mind after your first session:

💜Take it easy and rest so you can allow your body to heal post-treatment, even if you’re pain-free.
💜If you experience some symptoms or even feel sore or tired, that’s not uncommon since your body is just adjusting! As a reminder, the symptoms may get worse before they get better in the next day or two.

If your pain is getting significantly worse, give your Osteopath a call!

Who’s osteopathy for, you ask?

Anyone with some pain and discomfort, whether that’s arthritis, back pain, headaches, tennis elbow, digestive issues, or postural problems.

With it’s natural hands-on approach, osteopathy is the go-to approach for healing your body by treating the source of the problem, not just the disease.

Do you know what the 3 primary principles of Osteopathy are?

💜 The body is a dynamic unit of function - mind, body, and spirit.
💜 The body is self healing and self regulating.
💜 Structure and function are reciprocally interrelated.

So why are these principles important?

These principles help guide the practitioner to utilize the right tools for the job, rendering a rational treatment individualized for each patient. Rational treatment is based upon an understanding of the above three principles.

Osteopathy

My name is Kayla Di Venosa. I am a classically trained Osteopathic Manual Practitioner. I studied at the Canadian Academy of Osteopathy in Hamilton, Ontario, completing the 1 year Pre-Osteopathy program and the 4 year Master in Practice of Osteopathic Manipulative Sciences program. I am now registered member and in good standing with the Ontario Osteopathic Association.

Osteopathy and I came together when I was 18 years old. I’ve always had such a passion for health care and being a recent graduate from high school I was looking into health care professions as a career option. In the midst of all this, I was suffering from sciatica. I received care from different alternative health care providers and eventually was told to seek out Osteopathy. Over the course of 5 treatments, the sciatic pain had cleared.

Immediately I looked into the school my Osteopathic Practitioner attended and arranged a visit day to see and better understand what Osteopathy had to offer. I felt such a strong connection with the school and knew it was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I began this wonderful Osteopathic journey as a student and now continue down this path as a practitioner.

Osteopathy is much more than a science and manual therapy. It is an art form and should be performed as such. Rendering treatment with this in mind helps a practitioner like myself to stay true to the roots of Classical Osteopathy. Utilizing the techniques we were trained to use but with purpose and rhythm is what makes Osteopathy so powerful. This is what pulls out my passion and drive to help patients achieve health and restore balance to their overall being.
