As we witness the rise of antisemitism around the world, we are deeply saddened by this weekend’s tragic antisemitic terrorist attack in Australia. We recognize the impact of this intentional attack, which took place on the first day of Chanukah, a day meant for celebration with family and friends. Our thoughts are with all those who are grieving and affected by this act of hate.

Antisemitism continues to take many forms, ranging from individual acts of discrimination, physical violence, and vandalism, fuelled by hatred. This longstanding form of prejudice and discrimination continues around the world today, as well as here in Ontario.

We stand in solidarity with Jewish students, members, families, and their allies in our communities. We also remind all to continue treating one another with empathy and compassion during these challenging times.

Resources to address and eliminate antisemitism are available at etfo.ca and members.etfo.ca.

Gender-based violence isn’t abstract, it’s in our schools, our communities, our homes. Ending it means funding shelters, believing survivors, teaching consent, and challenging the patriarchy that makes violence possible. No one should have to survive what could have been prevented.
