Check out the employee highlight below for International Day of Women and Girls in Science! Horizon Health Network talked with Cassie, certified Pathologists’ Assistant (PA) at Horizon’s The Moncton Hospital.

On the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, we’re proudly highlighting Cassie, certified Pathologists’ Assistant (PA) at Horizon’s The Moncton Hospital. đŸ‘©â€đŸ”Ź

Cassie has always been enthusiastic about science but fell in love with pathology when she found a tumour in a sheep’s eye during her eighth-grade biology class. She has now been in the field for over 20 years!

As a PA, Cassie examines and dissects tissue collected from patients, including everything from a small skin tag to cancerous breast tissue. After examining the tissue, she samples the areas that a pathologist will need to examine under a microscope to determine a diagnosis. Cassie even performs autopsies, assisting pathologists in determining the cause of death, helping speak for the deceased, and giving closure to loved ones.

“Having a career that uses your education and skills to positively impact patient care is incredibly rewarding,” Cassie shares. “Patients don’t get to see how many people are caring for them behind the scenes, but our laboratory department is filled with medical professionals dedicated to ensuring patients receive the best, most accurate care.”

To women and girls interested in science, Cassie’s advice is: “If there is a career you want to know more about, reach out to someone in that role! Even though it can be intimidating, the person will usually be honoured and generous with their time and advice.”

Join us in thanking Cassie, and all our women in science at Horizon. You are an inspiration to the next generation of scientists in New Brunswick! 💙

When 31 year-old Michelle Roberts of Weldon, NB turned on the radio on January 30, she was instantly transported back to one of the most frightening moments of her life—late last year, when her baby daughter spent several days in the Pediatric Unit at Horizon Health's The Moncton Hospital.

That Friday marked the annual Radiothon for Kids, in partnership with Q103 Moncton's Rock Station and New Country 96-9. As Michelle listened to interviews highlighting the importance of supporting children and babies at the hospital, the stories felt deeply personal.

Read more of Michelle's story at: https://friendsfoundation.ca/stories/surrounded-by-care-when-it-mattered-most-a-grateful-moms-story/

Did you know that women & children is one of our fundraising priorities? Michelle's story is a great example of how donor funded projects are helping advance women & children's health at The Moncton Hospital.

Our Priorities. Your Impact.💙

---------------------

Mike and Judith's decision to join the Gifts for Life Society was, as Judith describes it, “a no-brainer.” For more than 20 years, Mike and Judith Briggs have quietly stood alongside The Moncton Hospital (TMH) guided not by recognition, but by gratitude—and by a deep belief in giving back to the community that has given them so much. 💙

Judith’s connection to The Moncton Hospital runs deep. Trained at The Moncton Hospital School of Nursing class of 1965, she began her career here as a Registered Nurse, laying the foundation for a lifetime devoted to care. Though life took the couple away for a time, they returned to Moncton in June 2005, drawn back to the place that shaped both their professional and personal journeys.

----------------------
