🦴Osteoarthritis (OA) is a condition where joint cartilage wears down causing pain, stiffness, and swelling. So... if you have knee OA or simply knee pain, sliding your foot back and forth 🔄 before getting up can lubricate the joint 🛢️, making it less painful once you stand 🚶‍♂️.

Why movement matters 🚶‍♂️
1. Lubricates joints 🛢️Keeps things moving smoothly (less stiffness)
2. Builds muscle 💪Stronger muscles = less stress on joints
3. Keeps flexibility 🤸Prevents joints from getting “stuck”
4. Reduces pain over time 🙂Gentle movement can actually ease pain
5. Helps weight control ⚖️Less weight = less joint pressure

Best activities ✅
* Walking 🚶
* Swimming 🏊
* Cycling 🚴
* Light strength training 🏋️
* Stretching 🧘

Avoid ❌
* High-impact jumping
* Overdoing it
* Pushing through sharp pain ⚠️

Simple idea:👉 “Motion is lotion” 🧴 for your joints

⚖️When doing cable exercises your pulling distance remains the same for any given exercise, but when you add pulleys to the system the weight or load will travel less distance for the same distance pulled. This allows you to increase your rate of power significantly without having the weight “jump”. But, you then need to add more weight to offset the mechanical advantage to have the same resulting load.

🔄Different pulley setups give different levels of mechanical advantage.

Here’s an example using two pulleys:
You will pull three times the distance that the weight will travel, therefore, you will need about one-third of the force, requiring three times the weight for a given exercise.

👉As mechanical advantage increases:
* Required force decreases💪⬇️
* Distance you pull the rope increases📏⬆️
🚀Pulleys make work easier by letting you trade distance (pulling more rope) for less effort (using less force).

💪The rotator cuff is a group of four muscles and their tendons that stabilize and move the shoulder joint. These muscles surround the head of the upper arm bone (humerus) and keep it securely positioned within the shallow socket of the shoulder blade (scapula). Because the shoulder is the most mobile joint in the human body, the rotator cuff plays a crucial role in both movement and stability💪.

Muscles of the Rotator Cuff
The rotator cuff is made up of four muscles:
* Supraspinatus muscle – helps lift the arm away from the body and initiates shoulder abduction.
* Infraspinatus muscle – responsible for external rotation of the shoulder.
* Teres minor muscle – assists with external rotation and stabilizing the shoulder joint.
* Subscapularis muscle – enables internal rotation of the arm.
Together, these muscles form a cuff-like structure around the shoulder joint, keeping the humeral head centered in the socket during movement🔄.

Functions
The rotator cuff performs several important functions:
* Stabilization: Keeps the shoulder joint stable during arm movements.
* Rotation: Allows internal and external rotation of the arm.
* Lifting: Helps raise the arm and perform overhead activities such as throwing or reaching.
Common Injuries
Rotator cuff injuries are common, especially among athletes and older adults. One of the most frequent problems is a Rotator cuff tear, which occurs when one or more tendons are damaged or torn⚠️.

Rehab
To rehabilitate the rotator cuff you generally want to begin with gentle and relatively stable movements at the shoulder. Once these are tolerated, progressively make the movement more unstable as in order to gradually increase the load imparted on the rotator cuff, just like in the video😃.

🍡Stick balancing for shoulder/rotator cuff stability and upper body proprioception. 💪I use this often as part of my warm up before doing upper body workouts. It’s also a great rotator cuff exercises for those doing rehab or those that are deconditioned looking to bullet proof their shoulders and increase upper body awareness. 👀

I solo rigged a 75m highline near Sussex today 🙌. I over packed with the ice climbing gear, which I didn’t end up needing since I forgot that I had left a tag line up a few months ago, so it made for a heavy pack and some tired legs🎒. Overall a great day!

‼️I often recommend my patients work on their balance while brushing their teeth. 🦷 The reason this helps due to the multitasking challenge it presents to the brain. You can’t wait for balance to be something you think about because you’ll already be on the floor if you slip for example, it needs to be automatic. It’s an easy habit to get into that can make a big difference with you body awareness, ultimately reducing your risk of injury and falls.🧊

💪If you’re looking at strengthening your shoulders and even your neck there’s no need to overcomplicate things.

Using an elastic and a door is the easiest way but a cable machine works even better. Loop the elastic around a piece of something and close the door over the elastic.

First, begin by simply pushing and pulling horizontally, making sure to move the shoulder blade through the movement while avoiding any shoulder hiking.

Second, introduce overhead pushing and pulling. You are now working in a more unstable position, so avoid any clicking or discomfort with these, it’s ok if you move a bit on an angle.

And finally, if you’re looking for more, do these same movements with your arms straight, which are often known as fly’s.

Do 8 repetitions of each for 2-3 sets, 2-3x per week increasing the load as tolerated. If you feel discomfort at the shoulder play with your shoulder blade by either rolling or moving it forward or backwards while performing these exercises. And as a bonus tip try maintaining a mini chin tuck with these movements.
