These vitamins are STAPLES to take in the winter time!!❄️ With grey days and coughs going around, its the best vitamin to be taking at this time of year for its mood and immune boosting effects🤧
Supplement Spotlight - Vitamin D3 + K2 The Canadian Staple ☀️
Vitamin D is one of the most common supplements Canadians take — and for good reason. With our long winters and limited sun exposure, many of us simply don’t make enough.
🍄🟫 Can you get enough from food?
Vitamin D is found in:
• Fatty fish (salmon, mackerel, sardines)
• Mushrooms and Lichen
• Egg yolks
• Fortified milk products and plant beverages
The challenge? Even a serving of salmon only provides roughly 400–600 IU. Most adults need 1,000–2,000 IU daily — sometimes more depending on levels. It’s very difficult to consistently meet optimal needs through food alone, especially without regular sun exposure.
🌤️ Why D3?
Supports immune health, mood, hormone balance, and bone strength. It also plays a role in serotonin production — which matters during darker months. D3 is typically derived from lanolin (animal source), D2 is derived from lichen (plant source).
🦴 Why add K2?
Vitamin D helps you absorb calcium. Vitamin K2 helps direct that calcium into bones and teeth where it belongs, instead of soft tissues. They work beautifully together.
✨ Typical Daily Adult Doses
• Vitamin D3: 2,000 IU daily
• Vitamin K2 (MK-7): 90–120 mcg daily
For most healthy adults, this is a safe foundational dose. If you are taking blood thinners like warfarin, speak with your healthcare team before supplementing with K2.
🧪 Even better? Test, don’t guess.
A 25-OH vitamin D blood test gives clarity. Many practitioners aim for levels around 90-125 nmol/L for optimal health. Sometimes we recommend more. It’s best to test and talk to your healthcare team about correct dosing!
I love D3 + K2 as a simple winter wellness habit for immune resilience, mood support, and strong bones.
