Had the pleasure of treating this adorable little sweetheart today 🥰

Came in for a little check up at 2 and a half weeks old! Did a global evaluation to see what was going on - she had some stiffness in her pelvis/low back, some belly stiffness and her neck was turned to one side.

With gentle techniques, I worked on loosening up and stretching the low back and pelvis, loosened things up in the belly and worked on her neck mobility.

Seeing the little munchkin in 2 weeks for a follow up!

Osteopaths can help with a lot of issues with babies, such as :
- Torticolis
- Plagiocephaly (flat head)
- Succion issues
- Postural imbalance
- Digestive issues
- Colic
- Reflux
- Birth related stress (forceps, succion extraction, prolonged compression in the birth canal)

If you have any questions, feel free to reach out or book an appointment for your little bundle of joy ☺️

STATIC STRETCHING VS DYNAMIC STRETCHING ⚠️

What is the difference?

Static stretches are those which you hold a single stretched out position of a muscle for 30 to 60 seconds.

Dynamic stretches are are similar- so you go into the stretched out position of the muscle. But instead of holding 30 seconds, you’ll do controlled movements and repetitions.

Both have different purposes and are used at different times before your workout. You’ll do dynamic stretching prior to warm up your muscles and prepare them for your workout. And you’ll do static stretching after to cool down the muscle and improve flexibility and reduce pain and soreness.

If you have any questions, feel free to DM me or call the clinic or click the link to book 😊

Did you know that osteopaths can treat the visceral area? ‼️

What is visceral osteopathy exactly? It regroups a whole bunch of techniques that act on your organs (diaphragm, stomach, intestines, lungs, heart, colon, kidney, etc).

Your organs attach to your bones and other organs via ligaments and fascia, and they’re innervated by the nerves that come from your spine and head.

You can have direct pain in the visceral area, you can have what we call referred pain or you can even experience emotional pain.

Just like any body part, there can be tension in those areas, and that tension needs to be worked on.

Tension around the stomach can cause back pain
Tension around the colon can cause sciatica
Tension around the liver can cause shoulder pain

What are some examples and indications to treat the visceral are?
- Digestive issues (constipation, diarrhea, reflux, bloating, slow digestion…)
- Swollen limbs
- Neck, back, shoulder, hip pains
- Nerve pain
- Stress, emotional trauma
- After a surgery on the area
- Organ prolapse (bladder, colon, uterus, kidney)

If you have any questions, message us, call us or book an appointment ☺️

Did you know that osteopaths can treat newborn babies? It’s good to do a check up after giving birth to make sure that everything is moving well and that there are no restrictions in mobility!

Have questions? Feel free to message me or call the clinic to book ☺️

On this first big snowfall of the year, let’s remind each other of some good shoveling ergonomics! A lot of injuries happen when shoveling, so be careful!

Not only can you have back pain, but you can also have fractures, muscular tears and even heart attacks.

Here are a few tips to help you out and prevent injuries:

- First of all, shoveling can cause a major stress to your body and your heart since it’s a big physical activity. If you have cardio-respiratory problems and you’re not very active, be aware of your symptoms, take breaks, or have someone else shovel for you
- Be careful that your driveway or steps aren’t slippery to avoid any falls
- Make sure to warm up your muscles a little bit before going outside to shovel. If you don’t warm up, you can cause muscle strains or even muscle tears
- Make sure to bundle up but wear breathable layers, wear good boots, gloves and a tuque. Stay warm
- Take your time, take breaks and stay hydrated
- Make sure to keep up with the storm. Try to go out and clean more frequently, instead of waiting for it to accumulate. It’ll avoid you being stuck shoveling thick and heavy snow
- Watch your posture! Make sure to keep the back straight, bend from the hips and knees, have a wide stance, and have your feet facing the shovel
- Try to push the snow as much as you can instead of lifting. If you do need to lift, make sure to keep your back straight and bend from the knees. Take small quantities of snow, and don’t hold at arms length (it puts a lot of pressure on your back). Don’t do any twisting or turning when lifting snow, it’s better to throw it it front of you.

DM me if you have any questions or if you need an appointment!

Happy winter and happy shoveling, stay safe! ❄️

Have you ever experienced severe back pain, and rounding the back or bending forward is extremely painful? Well listen up and try these movements!

It’s okay to avoid the painful movement at the beginning to let your back calm down and heal and start feeling better again. But, one mistake to avoid is to completely stop moving- because movement is medicine my friends!

Overprotecting can actually increase your pain sensitive and limit your function!

If you suffer from acute back pain or reoccurring back pain, feel free to message me or call to book an appointment!
