The PolarUs app

PolarUs is an English-language app that provides users with information on effective BD treatments, education, and self-management skills. The PolarUs app was developed by Dr. Erin Michalak’s CREST.BD team in close collaboration with people with BD, including members of the PolarUs User Group (PUG; established in 2022) to optimize quality of life (QoL). The PolarUs app is currently available for iPhone users https://apps.apple.com/us/app/polarus-bipolar-disorder-tool/id1608631629 An enhanced Android version is in development and expected to launch later in 2025. Learn more about the PolarUs app here https://www.crestbd.ca/2024/08/13/polarus/ or read our related blog post here https://www.crestbd.ca/2025/08/01/polarus-advisory-groups/

🌱 Just because you don’t see big changes doesn’t mean you’re not moving forward.
When we constantly strive to do better, we often forget to acknowledge how far we've already come.

🧠 Sometimes our mind complicates what could be simple.
This little diagram doesn’t pretend to fix everything,
but it might help put things into perspective.

🌳 Lasting change takes time.
Just because you don’t see results yet doesn’t mean nothing is happening.

Every small step matters.
Every move brings you closer to your goal.

Some days, your best is moving mountains.
Other days, it’s simply getting out of bed.
And in both cases, you’re doing your best.

🌪️ When your brain stays on high alert, it creates a constant stream of thoughts to feel safe. But this mechanism, instead of calming you, ends up draining your energy.
Learn to recognize this state of hypervigilance — and try one of these techniques to slow your mind down.

🔍 It is important to recognize the different forms of available around us: instrumental support (such as help with daily tasks), informational support (such as advice), and support (such as listening and comfort).

🛠 No one needs to assume all these forms of support at once. Identify the people or resources around you who can help you in these different aspects. This can include family, friends, colleagues, neighbors, as well as professionals and community organizations.

💬 Remember that asking for help is a sign of strength, and there are many resources to support you if your personal network is limited.

Together, we form a social safety net that can make all the difference. 💪

It's important to recognize the intensity of our emotions to better manage them. Here are some tips:

😌 Take a break: When you feel an intense emotion, give yourself a moment to breathe and center yourself.

🤗 Express your feelings: Talking about what you're feeling with a trusted friend or professional can help reduce the intensity.

😌 Practice mindfulness: Breathing exercises and meditation can help bring emotional intensity down to a more manageable level.

Remember, it's normal to feel emotions at various levels of intensity. Learning to understand and regulate them is an essential skill for mental well-being. 🌈

🧠 Your mental health comes first.
Before hurtful comments.
Before others’ expectations.
Before that never-ending to-do list.

✨ In a world that glorifies performance, productivity, and "pushing through"...
Remember: taking care of yourself isn’t a luxury — it’s a necessity.

This carousel is your reminder:
💬 You have the right to set boundaries,
💬 to take a break,
💬 to say no,
💬 and to choose what’s best for your well-being.
