🎃 OT Secret: Even Monsters Practice Fine Motor Skills! 🧟
Hey! Did you know Halloween is a super fun workout for tiny hands?
As Pediatric Occupational Therapists (OT), we see trick-or-treating as the perfect chance to boost your little monster's fine motor skills! Every treat pickup strengthens the muscles needed for coloring, cutting, and writing.
The Spooky Grasps:
🍬Vampire's Tiny Pinch: Encourage using only the thumb and pointer finger for small candies (M&M's, Candy Corn). This sharpens their grip for holding a pencil.
🍬Frankenstein's Middle Grab: Have them use the thumb, index, and middle finger for wrapped treats. This builds the precision needed for a mature, controlled grip.
🍬Werewolf's Power Grip: Carrying that heavy bag of loot strengthens the entire hand and wrist, boosting hand endurance for long school days!
Halloween Hand Dexterity At Home - The candy haul is the ultimate therapy kit!
🍬Unwrap the Mummy: Unwrapping twists and folds gives those small hand muscles a fantastic, heavy-work exercise.
🍬The Sorting Cauldron: Have them sort the treats by color or shape using tongs or a spoon to practice tool use and hand-eye coordination.
Have a functional, festive, and motor-skill-boosting Halloween!
