Today we branched out and did something a bit different than what you usually see on our page (OCR, hybrid, running)= we went and did our first Canicross race (running while attached to a dog via belt and harness)! If you've never tried it out, it's definitely worth a try! Recap below=
Today we decided to try something new for the first time= our first 2km Canicross event with my boi Rocket πππͺ
Result = 4th place men in our first eventππ
Coming mostly from OCR, we didn't really know what to expect at such a different event. All I can say is .officiel put on a really solid event! πͺπͺ
Athletes started in pairs every 15 seconds, and the organization had this executed perfectly.
Since this was our first race and we had no score/classification, we started nearly at the back of the pack, which meant we didn't exactly have a clear run, and we had to execute ALOT of passing almost immediately. I was extremely impressed with Rocket's ability to "lock in" and pass all of the other athletes and dogs without impeding them by trying to play with them, get distracted, etc (this was my biggest concern). Shoutout to and our dawg cousin Hazel for the practice.
The course was supposed to be 2km, but my watch (which isn't exactly accurate in the trails) had us at 2.3km which resulted in a longer time than predicted. I believe the course was long because we were forcing WAY harder than we ever did for 2km in training, yet we're were 15s off our "moderate" training run. Even that fastest runner was significantly slower than previous races, all which leads me to believe the course was long...not that it matters= if it's long for us, it's long for everyone else.
We were about 32s off first place and 14-15s off the podium, so I have to think all the passing cost us a few seconds (probably not 14-15 tho). Rocket has only been running for about 7-8 weeks while others have been running several years, so he shows alot of potential, and we can't wait to see what he can do next season!ππͺπ
