Lisa Rutledge, RD, RP Qualifying As a registered dietitian, Lisa helps people redefine their relationship with food. Her approach to Lisa's educational background includes a B.Sc.

When people try to make changes to their eating habits, it is not uncommon to feel lost or need a bit of motivation. It is also not uncommon to hesitate to ask for help and Lisa understands these apprehensions. Lisa's passion is to make sense of all the nutrition information out there by translating it into easy to understand points while sifting out the junk advice. One of Lisa's goals is to help busy people stop following bad nutrition advice and start eating in a way that makes sense to them. This helps her clients repair relationships with food, feel confident in their food choices and their ability to make changes. Lisa knows that no single approach is the right one for every individual and so she uses various approaches to help her clients make meaningful changes. This includes mindful and intuitive eating, as well as motivational interviewing. in Human Nutrition / Dietetics from McGill University. Her specialties include weight concern, chronic disease management (heart disease and diabetes) and eating disorders. Lisa is a member of the Order of Dietitians of Quebec and of the Dietitians of Canada. She is currently focusing on connecting with clients online through blogging (for her own site and Huffington Post Blog Canada) and daily inspirations on Instagram for living a life free of the diet prison. She also sees clients in one on one counselling sessions and workshops. Private counselling sessions take place at one of her offices in the Montreal area as well as online/over the phone. Currently, location and hours of appointments are flexible and home visits are also possible.

In addition to supporting clients with anxiety, depression, and stress, I support people with their relationship with food.

For the past 20+ years, I’ve supported people in their relationship with food as a dietitian.

Now, I’m expanding my private practice to offer psychotherapy — with the same weight-inclusive, compassionate lens.

Because food struggles are rarely just about food.
They’re about stress.
Shame.
Perfectionism.
Trauma.
Neurodivergence.
Living in a body in a world that judges bodies.

If you’re looking for thoughtful, down-to-earth care, I’m currently accepting new clients.
You’re welcome to reach out for a discovery

Who I work with

In therapy, I work with adults who are:
-- Exhausted by dieting
– Struggling with disordered eating or an eating disorder
– Living with ADHD & other brain differences
– Healing from weight stigma
– Tired of feeling “not good enough”

In my nutrition role, I work with adults and older teens who are struggling with the same things.

You don’t have to have a diagnosis.
You don’t have to be “sick enough.”
You don’t have to have it all figured out.

You just have to be willing to show up.

I’m currently welcoming new clients.

✨️ My wait list is OPEN for free discovery calls, starting in May 2025!

➡️ Link in bio

I support adults (18+) who are looking for support with anxiety, depression, stress, disordered eating, body image issues, chronic illness or health concerns.

I support clients in a way that honors their experiences and is collaborative.

I take a compassionate and curious approach to therapy, that does not tell people what to do, but helps to uncover greater well-being.

It is important to me to be non-judgmental, affirm people's identities and not pathologize (or label behaviors as normal or abnormal).

I really have a problem with using eating disorders (past or present) as a reason why someone should not diet, pursue weight loss or implement food rules.

I hate that this implies there are some caveats to having food rules (and thus restriction) because there are MANY reasons why everyone should be very cautious about having food rules.

Food rules are a risk factor in developing an eating disorders and disordered eating!!!
So, if the person doesn't already have a difficult relationship with food, they are at higher risk for it after living with food rules.

Food rules and yes, even those taken from the food guide, and yes, even those implemented with good intentions can all lead to having the same HARMFUL impact- disordered eating and eating disorders.

If you'd like to learn how to quit dieting & make peace with food, please consider joining my 4 week mini course 4 Weeks of Wellness.
It's free, with no strings attached and explains why food rules and dieting can backfire and how to start to repair your relationship with food.

A sandwich is not* a full meal.

Most of us will need more than just a sandwich to give us enough energy & satisfaction to get us to our next meal.

Sides like pasta salad, veggie salad, a soup, a sweet ending, crackers and cheese, pretzels or chips, juice or milk are just a few things that we can pair with a sandwich to make it more a complete meal.

It is also normal to need more than 2 slices of bread as a source of crabs or grain products at a meal. So, yes a fruit can help boost that sandwich into meal territory, adding a grain product to the meal may also be very much needed and helpful for energy levels, concentration and satisfaction.

If you are feeling that a sandwich SHOULD be enough for you, consider changing how you talk about the "extras" or "sides" you put with it. Are these really "extras"? or are they completing the meal?

*It is possible that a HUGE sandwich may be big enough to be considered an adequate meal size. But that unlikely the case with a traditional 2 slice bread sandwich.

Do you find food hard?
Does it feel difficult to manage?
Do you feel like one of the only people who can't seem to get it together when it comes to food organization?

If so, you are NOT alone.
There are A LOT of steps and A LOT of decisions to go from needing to eat and putting the food in your mouth.

First of all, all the physical actions required along with all the mental energy and it's the perfect storm for exhaustion and burnout.

To that, add in diet culture's contradictory messages on food choices and the disordered eating thoughts about food and body size that have taken up space in our heads since birth.

Let's not forget that it requires privilege to even have access to food let alone the ability to afford enough food.

Not to mention the ableist opinions on buying food prepared by anything other than our own hands... combined with the idea that we should all have time to decide, shop for, prepare, cook, & eat food that life (work, school, life responsibilities) DOES NOT afford us.

It is not wonder that food feels like an impossible task- doing everything yourself is likely NOT possible most days.
What could we outsource?
We can't have others eat for us, but could some meal decisions be made by others?
Could ingredients be purchased chopped? pre-cooked? Ready to eat?

Most of us don't even have dedicated time to eat life sustaining food, let alone time to prepare it or time to make it available for us to prepare, and the funds required for any of that to happen.
It is no wonder I hear from clients daily that food is hard.

It is an enormous privilege to be able to buy prepared & convenience food.
Could the time and energy used for food organization be lightened by reducing the pressure from the wellness diet?

If you are looking to make food easier, either through reducing eating disorder thoughts, reducing guilt around eating convenience foods, finding support to get it done (not get it "perfect") or wanting to outsource some food decisions, and would like a non-judgemental person to lean on, consider working with an anti-diet dietitian.

I offer a free, no strings attached discovery call to anyone considering working together: https://calendly.com/lisa-rutledge-rd/discoverycall
