Starting October 15, PSI is proud to offer a new online peer support group, Fetal Diagnosis Support During Pregnancy 💙

Led by trained peer facilitators, this support group is for expectant parents (gestational and non-gestational) who have received a high-risk or potentially life-limiting fetal diagnosis and are continuing their pregnancy. These situations often involve overwhelming uncertainty and complex medical decisions. Whether you are continuing a pregnancy with a potentially life-limiting condition or pursuing treatment with unknown or complex outcomes, this group offers a compassionate, nonjudgmental space to find connection and support. October 1 marks the beginning of Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month: a time to support the thousands of women and families across Canada whose lives are tragically altered by the loss of a baby. Every individual’s experience of grief is unique, but no one should have to walk that journey alone.

The SOGC is committed to ensuring that women’s voices and experiences are heard and reflected in the care they receive. Through our Pregnancy Loss HUB, we provide updated clinical guidance to health care professionals to equip them with the knowledge and tools to offer compassionate evidence-based support to their patients.

To mark International Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month, the Canadian Collaborative for Stillbirth Prevention - CC4SP (Canadian Collaborative for Stillbirth Prevention) shared this important short film produced by PUSH for Empowered Pregnancy. They have also published a paper in collaboration with the The Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada - SOGC in the Journal of Obstetrics & Gynaecology Canada arguing for a national action plan to reduce the stillbirth rates in Canada. Finally, in anticipation of this fall’s 2025 federal budget, the CC4SP submitted its recommendation to the Minister of Finance: invest $10 million over 5 years to develop and implement a national action plan to reduce stillbirths in Canada by 30% by 2030. Congratulations to its founder, Nadine Belzile and her team!

Learn how altered fetal movement is often the first and only warning sign of a baby in distress. Stillness is an Illness highlights the need for awareness and immediate action. Watch the film and share it to help save babies' lives.

For all student and independent filmmakers out there who are interested in highlighting the important role of fathers (referring to all who play fatherly roles) in children's lives, here is an excellent opportunity! Submission deadline is March 24th--

What is The D3F?
“Daddying” is what occurs when fatherhood and nurturing converge in service to a child's well-being. The Daddying Film Festival and Forum (D3F), is not your ordinary film festival. D3F is the world’s first and only film festival focused exclusively on promoting the importance of positive dad/dad figure involvement for kids and families. D3F was created by the DADvocacy Consulting Group and its Daddy Appleseed Fund (DAF) to offer children and youth a stage to express through film/video how they feel about the relationship they have or wish they had with their dads.

The inaugural virtual Daddying Film Festival in 2022 provided students and other non-student, independent filmmakers from 17 countries a worldwide stage to convey the importance of involved dads in their lives. In 2023, D3F expanded its outreach to encourage dads and dad figures to submit their own films for consideration. (Note: when we use the words "father" or "dad," we also refer to all who play fatherly roles.)

Sometimes “expecting” is not what you expect...

If you are thinking about having a baby, are struggling to conceive, are pregnant or are within your first year postpartum and are concerned about your experience, I can help. Sometimes too and tragically, pregnancies don't always end with a happy outcome. Whichever situation you are facing, I can offer you both individualized support or in a group setting so that you don't feel alone and isolated in your current struggle.

I specialize in reproductive mental health, before, during and after the birth of a baby. I treat anxiety and mood disorders whether during pregnancy or once the baby is born, and I also offer support and counselling to women and families who have experienced pregnancy or baby loss. While we often think and believe that pregnancy and having a baby is a blissful time, it isn't always and I'm determined to help women and families know that it's nothing about which they should feel ashamed. I can help you become the best parent you are supposed to be because of your uniqueness, and I can also help you work through your grief when a deeply wanted pregnancy and baby is lost.
