🔬 Aujourd’hui, nous avons eu le plaisir d’accueillir Adam Lewandowski, BSc (Hons), MSt, DPhil FESC, directeur scientifique adjoint du UK Biobank et professeur associé en sciences cardiovasculaires à l’Université d’Oxford, dans le cadre de la Série de conférences de professeurs distingués de L’Institut et du McGill Cardiovascular Grand Rounds présenté par le programme SCLV.

Sa conférence, « La Biobank du Royaume-Uni et le potentiel de la recherche cardiovasculaire », a mis en lumière l’importance unique de cette ressource nationale pour faire avancer la recherche en santé cardiovasculaire et améliorer notre compréhension des mécanismes sous-jacents aux maladies du cœur ❤️🩹.

🔬 Today, we had the pleasure of welcoming Adam Lewandowski, BSc (Hons), MSt, DPhil FESC, Deputy Chief Scientist for the UK Biobank and Associate Professor of Cardiovascular Science at the University of Oxford, as part of The Institute’s Distinguished Professors Lecture Series and the McGill Cardiovascular Grand Rounds presented by the CHAL program.

🧠✨ Nouveaux éclairages sur la croissance neuronale — un travail d’équipe à L’Institut

Comment les neurones savent-ils quand et où développer de nouvelles ramifications dendritiques? Une nouvelle étude menée à L’Institut met en lumière une pièce clé du puzzle. Les chercheuses et chercheurs ont découvert que deux protéines — Spire et Rab11 — travaillent ensemble pour stimuler la formation de nouvelles ramifications, essentielles à la communication neuronale et au développement des circuits du cerveau.

🧠✨ New insight into how neurons grow — thanks to teamwork at The Institute

How do neurons know when and where to grow new dendritic branches? A new study from The Institute reveals a key part of this process. Researchers found that two proteins — Spire and Rab11 — work together to spark the formation of new dendritic branches, essential structures that allow neurons to communicate and shape how brain circuits develop.

🔬 Led by Don van Meyel, PhD, senior scientist in the BRaIN Program, the research team showed how these proteins cooperate to guide dendrite architecture and help the brain build precise, adaptable networks.

🫀 A major international study co-led by the University of Ottawa Heart Institute and the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre has found that patients who have undergone a successful catheter ablation for atrial fibrillation (AF) may no longer need long-term anticoagulant therapy — a potential game-changer for millions worldwide.

💡 The OCEAN trial, published in The The New England Journal of Medicine and presented at the 2025 American Heart Association Scientific Sessions, followed 1,284 patients across multiple international sites over three years.

🔬 Des scientifiques de L’Institut ont contribué à une étude internationale publiée dans Science qui révèle comment une protéine unique, NUDT5, aide les cellules à décider quand produire les éléments constitutifs de l’ADN. Dirigée par le CeMM et l’ University of Oxford, avec la participation du Dr David Rosenblatt du Programme Child Health & Human Development Program de L’Institut, cette découverte pourrait avoir des implications importantes pour la compréhension du cancer et de certaines maladies métaboliques héréditaires.

🧬 L’étude montre que NUDT5 peut arrêter la production de purine — essentielle à la synthèse de l’ADN — non pas par son activité enzymatique, mais en agissant comme une charpente moléculaire qui bloque le processus lorsque les niveaux de purine sont déjà élevés.

🔬 Researchers from The Institute contributed to an international study published in Science that reveals how a single protein, NUDT5, helps cells decide when to produce the building blocks of DNA. Led by CeMM and the University of Oxford, with contributions from Dr David Rosenblatt of The Institute’s Child Health & Human Development Program (CHHD), this discovery could have important implications for understanding cancer and inherited metabolic disorders.

🎉 La Fondation Charles-Bruneau a annoncé un engagement quinquennal historique de 50 M$ (2025–2030) afin d’accélérer la recherche en hémato-oncologie pédiatrique dans les quatre centres hospitaliers universitaires du Québec — y compris Hôpital de Montréal pour enfants - Montreal Children's Hospital

Cet investissement sans précédent renforcera la collaboration entre les équipes de recherche et soutiendra des initiatives dans les domaines suivants :
🧬 Médecine personnalisée — mise au point de thérapies ciblées pour les enfants atteints de cancers rares ou résistants
🔬 Oncologie psychosociale — amélioration du bien-être mental et familial pendant et après les traitements
