Hello everyone! It’s been a while I thought I’d pop in with a little update! This fall I am working full time with a class of adults with developmental disabilities at the adult ed school I have been providing music therapy for since 2010. Sometimes this job requires me to change roles, and put on my teacher hat to teach personal and social skills...and I love it! Even in this new post-Covid situation.
One drawback- this means I don’t have time in my schedule to offer any music groups for the littles 😕 I hope the world changes again soon so that I can!
I will keep you posted on here with any updates, but meanwhile, stay safe, stay calm, and continue to find those precious corners of life where music can best help you when you need a boost.
Take care everyone!
❤️ Monique

I am super fortunate to work for this awesome program. Our staff has been mobilizing and preparing to offer online classes in line with the specialized curriculum we have been developing as a team for the last five years! I get to start offering virtual music therapy next week as well...here’s something our students prepared as a thank you for the frontline workers during the pandemic. Didn’t know my heart could be warmed even MORE than it already is! 💕💓💕

Happy Friday everyone! Here’s a tune for the littles I miss so much! ❤️🦆❤️

Just dropping in to say HIIII👋🏻👋🏻 to you all!
I hope you are staying healthy, and finding some peace of mind during this extra time at home. I know at moments it is not easy. Feel all of the feelings, let them happen - it’s OK. I look forward to the time when we can all play together again! 🎶💕💕🎶 ...until then, don’t be shy with your requests - I would love to share some songs with you from over here to enjoy at home - what would you like to hear?? Are you at home with your little one(s) and looking for ways to keep them engaged? You can have lots of fun using music activities that' don't require you to have any instruments. Take out your pots, pans, and a spatula and VOILA - you have a drum-set!

Tips:
- Get a spatula (drum-stick) for yourself so you can show them how to play!
- Play in a back and forth / call and response manner. This teaches turn-taking and communication skills!
- Play around with the speed and the volume - getting faster/slower and louder/quieter.
- Incorporate sign language such as, suddenly stopping the drumming and then asking if they want 'more' while teaching the sign for 'more'!
- Sing or put music on in the background and drum to the rhythm of the music!
