Some people walk into a room and immediately seem at ease. That’s not personality. It’s a skill.

“How to Work a Room” is one of those timeless books that breaks down the invisible rules of networking — how to approach someone, what to say, how to leave a conversation without it being awkward. 📖

If you’ve ever stood at a networking event holding your drink and scanning the room… this is for you.

This is the kind of work I do with my clients — practicing the actual sentences so you feel prepared.

Save this for your next professional growth read. 📚

This book has a special place in my shelf and will always be at the top of my recommendation list.

How to Work a Room is warm, practical, and genuinely enjoyable to read — a classic guide to confident communication. If you want to up your networking game, consider this your sign to add it to your list.

Confident communication is just the tip of the iceberg.

Most people think confidence is the goal.
But what actually makes someone sound confident is everything underneath.

Eye contact.
Facial expression.
Gestures.
Pauses.
Clarity.
Volume.
Posture.
Intonation.
Rhythm.

And then — practice.
And more practice.

Confidence isn’t something you’re born with.
It’s something you build.

This is the work I do with my clients — one layer at a time.

⭐️ Try focusing on just one of these at your next meeting and see what shifts.

Gestures don’t just add colour to your words — they help generate them.

Why?
🧠 The areas for hands and speech are right next to each other in the brain. When you move your hands, you activate those motor regions, which in turn “light up” and support the neighbouring language centres.
This makes it easier to retrieve words, structure your ideas, and keep your message flowing.

🤝 So if you’ve ever been told to “keep your hands still” when presenting, forget it. Your hands are doing some of the smartest work in the room.

💡My question for you: When you’re speaking, how much do you use your hands?

Client win! ⭐️

My client came to me wanting to transform her pitch for a startup competition — and she won a $5K grant.

We refined her message, strengthened her delivery, and built a pitch that connected with both the judges and the audience.

Communication is a career-changing skill — and it’s trainable.

I’m so excited!!!

💪 Today my daughter Chavy and I will be walking to fight against cancer.

It’s my birthday tomorrow and my gift 🎁 to myself is to raise money to support the Jewish General Hospital’s Centre Cancer Segal.

Here’s my why:

We've all been touched by cancer in one way or another. My earliest cancer-related memory was when I was a young child and my mom's good friend Sally was diagnosed with breast cancer. Not long after hearing the bad news, we were comforting her husband and young children at Sally's shiva.

My beloved Aunty Goldie was the glue that held our family together. She was diagnosed with cancer not long after retiring from her career as a librarian, and 5 years later she was taken from us. We miss her so much!

More recently, my dear friend Lindsay's husband was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. He passed away within a few months, leaving behind a widow and 2 young kids.

My camping buddy and purple-loving friend Bev, who dedicated her career as a social worker to helping disadvantaged children, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer just before our summer 2023 camping trip. Bev's joie de vivre was contagious and I'll cherish my memories of our "glamping" trips and the life lessons she shared with me forever. Bev left this world on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 at 9:14am.

Please join me in raising money for cancer research. Together, we can make a difference!

On July 7, join your fellow Quebecers to walk or ride in Le Week-end pour combattre le cancer, which brings us together with a common goal: to CONQUER CANCER!
