Try it tonight: write three small positives and why each mattered. Small counts: a laugh, a smile from a stranger, a warm cup of tea, sunlight on your face, a pet snuggle, or even five quiet minutes. 1)    Two-minute movement burst (get up, jump around, dance, run, or shake your body).
2)    Compassion cue (put your hand on your chest and say, “this is hard and I’m doing my best”)
3)    5-4-3-2-1 grounding technique (identify 5 things you see, 4 things you feel, 3 things you hear, 2 things you smell, 1 thing you taste)
4)    Box breathing (inhale through your nose for 4 seconds, hold your breath for 4 seconds, exhale through your mouth for 4 seconds, and hold your breath for 4 seconds)

Grounding is a technique that helps you refocus on the present moment. If today feels heavy, start small. Notice what’s around you; what you see, feel, hear, and smell. Then, identify one small action you have the capacity for; something kind, specific, and doable. For example, drinking a full glass of water, stepping outside for two minutes, tidying one surface, doing a 5-minute stretch, or even sending a “thinking of you” text. Starting therapy can feel overwhelming, especially if you’ve had experiences where it didn’t feel helpful. I know that feeling, and it’s one of the reasons I focus on creating a space where every client feels seen, heard, and supported.

As a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with Alli Therapy, I offer virtual sessions for adults (18+) with flexible day, evening, and weekend availability. My approach draws from person-centered, solution-focused, and cognitive behavioural therapy, but I don’t believe in a “one size fits all” model. Therapy should adapt to you, not the other way around.

Beyond my work with Alli Therapy, I also teach cooking classes for adults with autism through a nonprofit organization, and I support children with speech delays, selective mutism, social anxiety, and autism in speech therapy programs. These experiences remind me every day that each person’s journey is unique, and that healing looks different for everyone.
