Let's say hello again to Dr. Khadija Ahmed!
- Welcome back! What have you been up to since your last rotation at SMHC?
🥼Since my last rotation at SMHC, I’ve rotated through a busy community family medicine practice and also spent some time in paediatric emergency. It was a great mix – from working with patients to manage chronic conditions in the community, to handling acute cases in the ED. Definitely kept me on my toes and helped me build both confidence and adaptability!
- What are you excited to bring into this rotation?
🩺I’m excited to bring a stronger approach to managing acutely unwell patients from my peds emerg experience, as well as a renewed focus on continuity of care and shared decision making from community family medicine.
- What do you hope to improve or explore this time around?
💊🏥I’d like to continue improving my diagnostic reasoning and procedural skills, as well as refining management plans in a patient-centred manner with shared decision making. I’m also hoping to hone my skills in preventative care, teaching/patient education, and health promotion!
- What do you enjoy most about being back at SMHC?
👨👨👧👦👩⚕️The people! The best part about being back at SMHC is the supportive environment. The staff, preceptors, residents, and patients create a collaborative space that makes learning here so enjoyable and meaningful!
- Any new hobbies or interests you’ve discovered?
⚱️👩🎨Yes! I’ve recently picked up pottery! Definitely more challenging than I anticipated, but just a great creative outlet!
- What would you tell yourself on day one of residency?
👩🏫 You don’t always have to have it all figured out, just stay curious, ask questions, and embrace moments of uncertainty as opportunities for growth. The beauty of family medicine is that there are always new opportunities for learning!
