Let's say hello again to Dr. Ira Brown!

- Welcome back! What have you been up to since your last rotation at SMHC?
🩺Peds emerge in London, Sarnia ICU and Strathroy Emerge.

- What are you excited to bring into this rotation?
🥼Since my last block at SMHC I feel I have really gained confidence with my clinical decision making. Now that I can make quicker decisions, I feel I can spend more of my day talking face-to-face with patients and learning how their illnesses are impacting their life.

- What do you hope to improve or explore this time around?
🏀💉I’m looking for more experience with sports medicine, musculoskeletal injuries and joint injections so that I can help patient’s recover from their injuries as quick as possible.

- What do you enjoy most about being back at SMHC?
🏥I really love the supportive nature of the office. The whole clinic functions as a team and there is always someone available to answer your questions when you see something new.

- Any new hobbies or interests you’ve discovered?
🎵I am only recently becoming a fan of live music and I’ve gotten the opportunity to see some awesome concerts recently, including Noah Kahan and Zach Bryan.

- What would you tell yourself on day one of residency?
👩‍👧‍👦🩺Family medicine is undoubtably challenging, but the more experience you gain the easier it is to make confident decisions and work efficiently. The more work you put in now, the easier your work will feel down the line.

- What’s something you’re excited about in the next year—professionally or personally?
🏥🏙️I’m looking forward to locuming when I graduate, working in different communities and learning more about what aspects of family medicine peak my interest.

Meet Dr. Charlotte Hansen!

🏙️Where are you from?
London, ON

🎓Where did you go to medical school?
Western University 💜

🩺What inspired you to pursue a career in family medicine?
One of the reasons I was inspired to pursue a career in family medicine is the opportunity to build lasting relationships with my patients. I look forward to supporting them through different life stages and navigating both their challenges and successes. I am also drawn to the wide scope of practice inherent to family medicine—there is always something new to learn.

🏥Why did you choose SMHC for your family medicine residency?
I chose SMHC because of the fantastic reputation it has in training family medicine residents and the wide range of opportunities offered throughout residency training, including hospitalist and emergency medicine.

🏃‍♀️🎵What's your go-to activity when you need to unwind?
Anything outdoors! Nothing beats a good Springbank Park run or walk (while listening to Taylor Swift, of course).

🦀🦞What is your favourite food or dish?
Difficult to pick just one..... probably any type of seafood.

🎥🎬Fun fact or hidden talent?
Fun Fact: I was in the movie Molly's Game - let me know if you find me 😁

Let's say hello again to Dr. Khadija Ahmed!

- Welcome back! What have you been up to since your last rotation at SMHC?
🥼Since my last rotation at SMHC, I’ve rotated through a busy community family medicine practice and also spent some time in paediatric emergency. It was a great mix – from working with patients to manage chronic conditions in the community, to handling acute cases in the ED. Definitely kept me on my toes and helped me build both confidence and adaptability!

- What are you excited to bring into this rotation?
🩺I’m excited to bring a stronger approach to managing acutely unwell patients from my peds emerg experience, as well as a renewed focus on continuity of care and shared decision making from community family medicine.

- What do you hope to improve or explore this time around?
💊🏥I’d like to continue improving my diagnostic reasoning and procedural skills, as well as refining management plans in a patient-centred manner with shared decision making. I’m also hoping to hone my skills in preventative care, teaching/patient education, and health promotion!

- What do you enjoy most about being back at SMHC?
👨‍👨‍👧‍👦👩‍⚕️The people! The best part about being back at SMHC is the supportive environment. The staff, preceptors, residents, and patients create a collaborative space that makes learning here so enjoyable and meaningful!

- Any new hobbies or interests you’ve discovered?
⚱️👩‍🎨Yes! I’ve recently picked up pottery! Definitely more challenging than I anticipated, but just a great creative outlet!

- What would you tell yourself on day one of residency?
👩‍🏫 You don’t always have to have it all figured out, just stay curious, ask questions, and embrace moments of uncertainty as opportunities for growth. The beauty of family medicine is that there are always new opportunities for learning!

Let's say hello again to Dr. Jia Yan Zhang!

Welcome back! What have you been up to since your last rotation at SMHC?
🏥💊Since my last rotation at SMHC, I have been working in Parkwood Stroke Rehabilitation Centre, and working with the palliative and geriatrics team at LHSC, as well as hospitalist team at STEGH.

What are you excited to bring into this rotation?
👴🩺Excited to bring my experience in managing complex, multifactorial medical issues particularly in our elderly population!

What do you hope to improve or explore this time around?
🩺I am not far away from graduating, so just hoping to hone my skills as a general practitioner and build experience for independent practice!

What do you enjoy most about being back at SMHC?
🏥👨‍👩‍👧‍👧The people! It's so nice to return to see all of the staff, and to see my patients again!

Any new hobbies or interests you’ve discovered?
🧵Cross-stitching! Not a new hobby but one that I haven't done for a while.

What would you tell yourself on day one of residency?
🥼It goes by fast! Take every learning opportunity possible and keep learning even after residency!

What’s something you’re excited about in the next year—professionally or personally?
🩺To transition to independent practice which is both exciting and daunting at the same time!
