TURNER, Rosemary (née Stoneouse) Died peacefully at Strathcona Long Term Care, Mount Forest on Sunday, December 14, 2025 at the age of 80 years. She was the beloved wife of Peter for 58 years, dear mother of Mike (Michelle), cherished sister of Marg Rapp (Ron) and loving aunt to many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Alex and Lovina, and sisters Bessie, Jessie Mae, Jean Sandra, and brother, Marty.

Rope, as she was known to her family and friends, grew up on the family farm in Glenelg Township where chores had to be done before rushing off to catch the school bus. In her youth, she played basketball and the bass drum for the Durham Girls Marching Band. Rope left home at the tender age of 16 to work for Dominion Life in Waterloo. Her various jobs took her to Toronto where she worked in the office of an electric motor manufacturer, back to Waterloo where she was an owner/operator and head installer for two car stereo shops and eventually, a steam presser for a Kitchener shirt manufacturer.

When Peter and Rope moved to Mount Forest some 30 years ago, she turned her painting and drawing hobbies into a personalized sign business which proved so successful she couldn’t keep up with the orders. A self-made lady of independent means, she drove herself to her driver’s test from Toronto to Kitchener in 1964. Rope was a true Renaissance woman, a friend to all, and proved to be a font of information on a wide variety of topics. She was the first call many of us made when we had a problem to fix. She was a wonderful neighbour and golf partner to the folks around her place on Albert Street, always welcoming passersby with an open door and a drink offer as well as the neighbours' dogs with a biscuit or two. She was a longtime volunteer with Waterloo Minor Boys Softball, the Mount Forest Community Pantry, and the Mount Forest Panthers ladies softball team. Rope was a life-long Blue Jays fan who truly understood the nuances of baseball. And, man, could she ever put together a batting order and defensive lineup! We shall miss her calming presence, her razor-sharp wit, her plethora of knowledge and her buns. Oh, Rope’s buns!

A celebration of her life will be held in the spring, details will be announced. The family would like to thank the staff at Louise Marshall Hospital and Strathcona Long Term Care for their excellent care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, please raise a glass of wine in honour of Rope. England Funeral Home, Mount Forest entrusted with arrangements. Online condolences available at

Prendergast, Shirley Ann (née Bond)

October 21, 1928 - December 12, 2025

We are saddened to announce the death of our beloved mother Shirley on December 12, 2025 in Mount Forest (a former resident of Malton, ON for more than 70 years).

Shirley was the loving wife of Wilfred (predeceased), and cherished mother of Colleen Johnson (Eugene), Bert (Judy), Susan, Nancy (Bryan Perdue) and Julieanne (Marni Barrow). She was much loved by her six grandchildren, Sarah, Patrick, Wilfred, Kevin, Matthew and Luke, and adored by her 10 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by her parents Alex and Lydia (nee Stewart), and her siblings Lloyd (Leona), Betty (Tom Brassard), Robert (Vilda), she is survived by her brother Rick (Brenda) Bond of Malton and many adoring nieces and nephews.

Shirley was born in Woodbridge and grew up in Malton. She was a determined and strong woman who was blessed with a wonderful sense of humour. As a teenager, her good grades made it possible to volunteer as a Farmerette, spending a summer in Thedford, ON, weeding onions and helping with other farm chores. The highlight of this first adventure away from home were the friendships she encountered and the pride she felt contributing to the war effort. Being exempted from having to write her final high school exams was also pretty exciting. Upon her return to Malton, she worked at AV Roe. After marrying Wilf in 1948, she spent many years with the Ladies Auxiliary Legion Branch 528, serving time as President. In recognition of her dedicated service, Shirley was awarded a Lifetime Membership. She took up golf when Dad retired in 1975. They enjoyed a summer spot at Pike Lake for many years together. In 2002, Mom made a permanent move to Mount Forest where she played a great game of golf at Pike Lake, enjoyed bowling and euchre and her weekly Buck and a Quarter card games with the Mount Forest ladies and a very competitive game of cribbage until just recently. Shirley volunteered at the local thrift shop until her independence was curtailed rather abruptly due to her failing eyesight. She sometimes lamented on how difficult it was not being able to see, but she never felt sorry for herself. She found joy in her garden, growing tomatoes, beans and cucumbers and an abundance of beautiful perennials, and she delighted in the hummingbirds and orioles that were often at her birdfeeders.

Mom’s pickled eggs at Christmas were greatly anticipated by those who were lucky enough to be gifted a jar and her butter tarts, coconut tarts and steak and kidney pies were legendary. Although she will be greatly remembered for these things, it is her strength, courage, kindness and her unwavering support in all that we, her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren accomplished that we will whole-heartedly miss. She was a very proud Mom, Granny and GG.

Cremation has taken place and Shirley will be laid to rest with her beloved husband at Glendale Memorial Gardens, Etobicoke. A celebration of life will be held on January 24, 2026 at the Mount Forest Legion, 140 King Street West, Mount Forest, from 1:00pm till 4:00pm with memories being shared at 2:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the CNIB or Cancer Patient Services (Mount Forest Thrift Shop) would be appreciated by the family. Donations and online condolences may be made at

COOK, Nancy Marlene – Suddenly at Hanover & District Hospital on Tuesday, December 9, 2025 after a short struggle with cancer in her 70th year.

Beloved wife of Roger Cook of Neustadt. Treasured mother of Jennifer (Arnold) Quesnel of Harriston, Joanne (Ryan) Goode of Milton, and Erin (Phil) Stauffer of South River. Adored Grandma/Grammie to Cara (Nick), Justin (Courtney), Ewan, Liam, Sophie (Andrew), Maggie and Ryder.

Survived by sisters Betty (Bob) Longeway of Stratford, Ruth Dores of Paris, and Barb (Roy) Tarrant of Newtown, NL, mother-in-law Dorothy Cook, Roger’s siblings, Rod (Lesa) of Holstein, Roxanne (Shawn) Beale of West Luther, and Rhonda (Thomas) Hopkins of Guelph, along with cousins, nieces and nephews too numerous to name.

Predeceased by her parents Gordon and Elaine (Motchman) McEllistrum of New Hamburg, siblings Mary Fishback, Joan Spelker and Don McEllistrum, along with brother-in-law Frank Dores and father-in-law Karl Cook.

Nancy was so very proud of her daughters and her grandchildren. She loved going for a drive, a good burger, especially a stop at Weber’s on the way up Highway 11, and a hot cup of tea. She was highly intelligent with a ready wit and a mischievous sense of humour. She enjoyed a lively conversation, a good pun, great music and rollerskating.

Nancy suffered from migraines and chronic exhaustion all her adult life. She often wondered what it would be like to have the energy of a normal person and a body that didn’t seem to hate you. In 2023, she was diagnosed with colitis and, most recently, cancer.

Heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff at Hanover & District Hospital and Grey County Paramedics who helped Nancy through her final day – your compassion and caring for her was just overwhelming.

Cremation has taken place and interment will be held at New Hamburg Cemetery. A private family gathering will take place at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to England Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made the Hanover & District Hospital Foundation or to the charity of your choice. Donations and online condolences may be made at
