The Board of Directors of the Newfoundland and Labrador Construction Safety Association (NLCSA) advises that Cherie Whelan, CEO, has given notice that she has accepted another opportunity, and that her last day with NLCSA will be Friday, February 27, 2026.
Cherie joined the NLCSA as CEO in January 2024 and, in the short time since, has led significant, positive change at the association and for safety in Newfoundland and Labrador’s construction sector. After facilitating the development of a 3-year strategic plan for the NLCSA, Cherie oversaw many meaningful initiatives and improvements, including the implementation of our new SiteSafe Certification program for small construction firms.
On behalf of the NLCSA Board of Directors, I extend a sincere thank-you to Cherie for all the value she has brought to our association. We are sad to see her leave - Cherie's experience, skills, and passion for safety will be greatly missed! We wish her all the best in her new position!
The Board of Directors has activated its succession plan and will search diligently to find the best qualified candidate to succeed Cherie as our next CEO. A recruitment firm, Higher Talent, has been engaged and the CEO position will be advertised in the coming days.
