November is Family Violence Prevention Month
Family violence affects people of all ages, backgrounds, and communities. If you or someone you know is experiencing abuse, please know that you're not alone, and help is available π
Signs you might need support:
- Feeling afraid of someone in your home
- Being controlled, isolated from others, or constantly criticized
- Experiencing physical harm, threats, or manipulation
- Having your finances or movements restricted
What you can do:
- Trust your instincts -- if something feels wrong, itβs worth paying attention to.
- Create a safety plan (safe place to go & how to access important documents)
- Reach out to someone you trust
- Contact professional help when you're ready
Resources available 24/7:
πEmergency Social Services: 1-866-956-1099
π211 Alberta: dial 2-1-1
πNational Domestic Violence Hotline: call 1-800-799-SAFE (7233) or text "START" to 88788

For friends and family: If someone confides in you, listen without judgment, believe them, and help them connect with resources. Your support can make all the difference.
