We have exciting news! 😁

Thanks to kind folks in our community, we've been nominated for a Bracebridge Chamber of Commerce 2026 Business Awards – Not For Profit Impact Award.

We always feel so honoured when people recognize the work we’re doing in the community. Our community is WHY we can continue to support young people with their mental health. With every nomination, shout-out, like, reshare, donation, and offer to help…your support keeps us going!

We’re doing this together, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Weight for it because we have big news to share! 🏋️

MiND-AID just got a big boost of financial support thanks to the Sober Gala 2025! Hosted by F**T Gym and Personal Training, this event raised $4,300 to help young people access mental health support in our community. This is the second year we’ve received a donation from the Sober Gala, and it’s this continued support that keeps our services running.

“We at MiND-AID are so grateful that the Sober Gala again chose to support the work we are doing with young people in Muskoka and also that the Gala itself is so inclusive and sensitive to the needs of our community.” – Jody North, Executive Director of MiND-AID Muskoka

Money can’t buy you love, but it can change a young person’s life.

More than half of young people (aged 18-24) who had early signs of a mental illness said cost was an obstacle to getting the mental health services they needed.

While free mental health care services do exist, they often come with a long wait time, a limited number of sessions, or do not cover specializations some young people need.

Without having access to targeted mental health services, a young person’s mental health struggles can snowball into other issues. In Canada, people with poorer mental health are 50% more likely to live in inadequate housing. They also experience a higher rate of unemployment, making it even more difficult to afford specialized mental health supports.

But you can help us change this.

Our Therapy Fund helps young people access specialized private practitioners to support their mental health so they don’t fall through the cracks. Last year, the fund supported 52 young people to afford trauma therapy, art & play therapy, equine therapy, and treatment for eating disorders, for example.

The Therapy Fund is running low, and we now risk having to turn young people away. With a donation to the Therapy Fund, you can help us make sure this doesn’t happen.

Your donation of $5, $50, $500 – whatever amount you can give – will go directly to a young person who needs specialized care they can’t afford.

Have ideas about what would make our community a safer, healthier place? Let the District Municipality of Muskoka know!

The District of Muskoka is updating its Community Safety and Well-Being Plan, and they want to hear from residents and community partners. Your feedback will help them understand what’s working in our community, what’s changing, and what needs to be addressed next.

‼️There are sections in the survey where you can provide a non-prompted answer (“Other”) – and this is where you can add specific concerns and issues.

For example, the survey asks how accessible you feel community supports are in Muskoka. Based on what we’ve heard from our clients at MiND-AID, young people are experiencing issues that impact their ability to access mental health services. These include:

• very long wait times

• lack of services in general

• lack of long-term therapy

• lack of free or affordable specialized therapy and assessments

• confusing, uncoordinated, and inflexible service systems

Completing this survey is an opportunity to share your community experience around mental health, housing, homelessness, and more.

💬 The survey is open until March 8 at the link here: www.muskoka.on.ca/CSWB

We want to tell you a little story about a bear with a big heart for helping others.

In 2021, Coco Bear Fundraiser reached out to us about a partnership. Created by Shari Dubois to honour her son Conrad, Coco Bear was a local initiative raising funds for youth mental health and addictions support. She was inspired by a piece of art Conrad left on the refrigerator, a colourful bear nicknamed Coco Bear. She began printing Coco Bear on t-shirts and sweatshirts to raise funds.

From our very first meeting with Shari and Coco Bear, we were in. Shari’s desire to support mental health came from her own family’s struggle in trying to find help for Conrad – and not being able to get it. Shari wanted to change this reality for other young people in Muskoka.

Five years later, Coco Bear continues to be one of our biggest supporters. We just received another $5,000 donation from Shari, who has now raised $73,876.78 for MiND-AID! This latest donation will support our Therapy Fund, which help covers specialized therapeutic supports.

Having sustainable support from Coco Bear is why we can continue to support young people with navigating the mental health system and accessing the help they need.

Shari, you and Coco Bear have done so much for young people in our community. We are beyond grateful that you chose to team up with us because you are a huge part of our story and our work. Thank you, thank you, thank you! 💙

Are you a young person who needs help with your mental health (prescription, assessment, diagnosis), but don't have a health care provider? We can help!

As part of our Mobile Youth Wellness Hub Team, our Nurse Practitioner Suzanne can see you as a patient for free in person or even online.

Even though the Mobile Youth Wellness Hub is off the road for the winter, Suzanne is still providing care for young people 29 and under who are residents of Muskoka.
Suzanne loves working with all young people to help them find the care they need as quickly as possible while also knowing they are truly cared for.

She has chosen to be part of our Hub Team because she understands that not everyone has a doctor or nurse practitioner and that getting mental health and wellness needs addressed as soon as possible leads to healthier outcomes. She creates a safe space for addressing health-related needs of LGBTQ+, Indigenous and neurodiverse young folks of all status and abilities.

Suzanne can also connect with other service providers in your community, and help you access other health supports you need.
