Some of my favourite days are these days between Christmas and New Years Day, where I don't really know what day it is and I can eat all the cheese and chocolate I want.
I hope your holidays were what you needed them to be: restful, recharging, exciting, connecting, fun, adventurous, peaceful, calm, reparative, joyous, quiet, busy...

As we look toward the new year, consider this your reminder that it need not be a "new year, new you" sort of experience. May 2025 end softly, with a sigh, and may you step into 2026 with tenuous hope and gentle ambition.

A Peachy New Year to all!

We love Christmas Markets, we love hallmark-movie style settings, and we love crafting, so what better way to give back to the community this year than by sponsoring the FREE kids craft table at the Nakusp Heritage Nursery Christmas markets!!

Two different nights; two different crafts! Be sure to come both nights as the line up of vendors is amazing and the atmosphere is cozy.

πŸ™‹β€β™€οΈ Richelle here! Here is a fabulous picture of my mom (the one hanging outside the line) and her four sisters. Lucky me, with four amazing and beautiful aunties!
All day I've felt a bit heavier than usual and at lunch time I was suddenly struck with why. Today is my Auntie Mary Ann's birthday - but in 2019, she died suddenly and unexpectedly. I was pregnant with my first baby. I was surrounded by people expressing joy, excitement, and all those other "baby's-coming" feelings but all I wanted to do was grieve. I became resentful of being pregnant while my family went through this tragic loss. And I also became angry that death happened during my pregnancy. Like somehow I couldn't separate the two. It was messy and scary and a deeply sad time.

Making space for these conflicting parts of myself has allowed me to recognize that death and birth are so inexplicably linked, that life is not linear, but circular, that those resentful parts of me just wanted to protect me. That the fear somewhere in there was that my pregnancy would always be connected with/to grief - it's not, but I needed to work hard to get there.

Being pregnant changes how we move throughout the world. For those 40ish weeks, we aren't just ourselves. Sometimes life events hit that much harder because we are also growing a whole other human!

Today I miss Auntie Mary Ann so much. I wish she knew my kids, but my kids certainly know of her.
Happy birthday, sweet Mary. πŸͺ½πŸ•ŠοΈ

Time change and cloudy days had me feeling real low and getting antsy about the settling in of Seasonal Affective Disorder...
Then the sun came out and I had a good day and confirmed that I am, in fact, just a complicated plant.

To be fair, seasonal depression is complex and annoying and if you struggle with it, you are not alone. πŸŒ±β˜€οΈ

Besides sunlight, what gets you through the dark and dreary?
Here's mine:
🧑 Lighting candles
🧑 Embracing cozy: blankets, loungewear, slippers
🧑 Connecting with people, even if I feel like hibernating
🧑 Hot, scalding showers
🧑 A little extra chocolate
🧑 Moving my body in joyful ways
🧑 Walking to and from work
🧑 Plugging in my "sad lamp"
🧑 Reading chick-lit beach reads

πŸ™‹β€β™€οΈRichelle here!

I haven't posted much lately because...well...social media isn't the main focus of my practice - you are!
Client-centred care means that as your therapist, I'm continually growing, learning, and reflecting. In the past several months I have completed certification in a variety of perinatal mental health specific trainings, including:
🧑 Birth and Reproductive Trauma certificate from
🧑 Perinatal Grief and Loss certificate from
🧑 IFS for Perinatal Populations from CPMHT
🧑 Relational Cultural Therapy for Perinatal Populations from CPMHT

I'm also signed up - and so stoked - for the Perinatal Collective's online conference this November!

Because when I say I "get it" - you can rest assured that I do AND I have the clinical training to back it up.

Specialization in all things perinatal (fertility, TTC, pregnancy, postpartum, and new parenthood) means you can expect quality care in this journey.

Happy Birthday, Peach Door Counselling!

Today marks THREE years since I started my clinical counselling practice in rural, small town Nakusp as a sole practitioner, in the laundry room of a small shared clinic space (yes, my partner and I converted a laundry room into a therapy space...), wondering if I'd get "enough" clients to sustain the business.

Three years later, I enjoy working alongside a fabulous colleague, Brittany MacCuspic, RSW and we see a *nearly* full (somehow we always manage to fit new clients in) caseload of clients from an office with a big window, in the newly renovated Nakusp Integrated Health building. 🧑 πŸ‘πŸ§‘

I found my team, my space, my clients, my niche (hello, perinatal population), and genuinely look forward to working. So, a HUGE thank you to everyone who chose Peach Door Counselling for their mental health and therapy needs. We couldn't be here without you.

And now, after a full day of 6 clients, I'm off to celebrate 3 years of owning my own practice with a creamcicle 🍦

Settling in nicely to the new therapeutic space and seeing clients for the first time in here 🧑

It also feels good to be part of something bigger like the Nakusp Integrated Health Inc clinic. In an all too often individualistic society, it's a breath of fresh air to lean into a village model and the loving embrace of a collective.

Be sure to come check out the new clinic and see how all of our practitioners can support your wellness needs!

NEW LOCATION!

Peach Door Counselling has moved (along with the whole Nakusp Integrated Health Inc clinic) and we are THRILLED with how the new counselling space has shaped up.
🧑
Our new therapy space is bigger, boasts natural light with a real window (with privacy screening of course), temperature control, and options for seating to now better host couples and families. With the pending addition of some more living plants and some art for the green wall, we think it's pretty much perfect.
Book your in-person session soon or drop by to check it out!
