Last night, I stood among 133 women, non-binary, Two-Spirit, and gender-diverse role models, nominated across 11 categories – each carrying their own story of courage, becoming, and contribution.
Our keynote speaker, two-time Olympic Champion Catriona Le May Doan, O.C., OLY, reminded us that success isn’t just about medals or awards – it’s about the preparation, the practice, the setbacks, the lessons, the connections, the growth and the courage to keep showing up. And that success looks different for each of us.
I did not win in my category, Breathe Fire. And still -- this was a SUCCESS. This award recognizes the courage to transform adversity into hope and pain into purpose. To be seen in this way means so much to me because I believe passionately in hope –
in its power to heal trauma, break cycles, and create new possibilities, and my work as a counsellor is devoted to helping others trust it for themselves.
My focus on empowering women and gender-diverse people through counselling, healing circles, public speaking, and content creation comes from my belief in the power of the feminine energy – the qualities of collaboration, connection, and deep listening. When women remember who they are, they become forces of love, compassion, and courage and our world needs that right now.
More importantly, I am allowing myself to be seen and celebrated as a woman of influence. And what feels most beautiful is this: Every woman and gender-diverse person who was nominated, and every one who stood on that stage, gave permission to other women to honour their strength, celebrate their becoming, and let their voices be heard.
I also “won” through the love and support of my family and friends who continue to inspire me to step into my purpose - to help create a kinder, more compassionate world where people feel safe, connected, and valued and to leave a legacy of love, healing, and possibility for generations yet to come.
Thank you Blaise Hunter Women of Influence Nanaimo Network, Barbara Anne Photography and all the sponsors and volunteers who made this evening so inspirational and powerful. Congratulations to every nominee and award recipient.
