Last night, I stood among 133 women, non-binary, Two-Spirit, and gender-diverse role models, nominated across 11 categories – each carrying their own story of courage, becoming, and contribution.

Our keynote speaker, two-time Olympic Champion Catriona Le May Doan, O.C., OLY, reminded us that success isn’t just about medals or awards – it’s about the preparation, the practice, the setbacks, the lessons, the connections, the growth and the courage to keep showing up. And that success looks different for each of us.

I did not win in my category, Breathe Fire. And still -- this was a SUCCESS. This award recognizes the courage to transform adversity into hope and pain into purpose. To be seen in this way means so much to me because I believe passionately in hope –
in its power to heal trauma, break cycles, and create new possibilities, and my work as a counsellor is devoted to helping others trust it for themselves.

My focus on empowering women and gender-diverse people through counselling, healing circles, public speaking, and content creation comes from my belief in the power of the feminine energy – the qualities of collaboration, connection, and deep listening. When women remember who they are, they become forces of love, compassion, and courage and our world needs that right now.

More importantly, I am allowing myself to be seen and celebrated as a woman of influence. And what feels most beautiful is this: Every woman and gender-diverse person who was nominated, and every one who stood on that stage, gave permission to other women to honour their strength, celebrate their becoming, and let their voices be heard.

I also “won” through the love and support of my family and friends who continue to inspire me to step into my purpose - to help create a kinder, more compassionate world where people feel safe, connected, and valued and to leave a legacy of love, healing, and possibility for generations yet to come.

Thank you Blaise Hunter Women of Influence Nanaimo Network, Barbara Anne Photography and all the sponsors and volunteers who made this evening so inspirational and powerful. Congratulations to every nominee and award recipient.

As a counsellor I have the honour of being a sacred witness—holding space for healing, truth and transformation, as women unravel, remember, and rise. I wrote this poem after feeling inspired by the courage and commitment of these women who courageously step into their fear, who learn to hear their own voice, trust their own wisdom, and find their way home to love. May it remind you of your own enough-ness, your own worth, and your own unfolding.

A Return To Love
A poem of becoming, belonging, and coming home to oneself

I sit here holding space
As you speak of your unworthiness
Voice small, edged with shame
I see your beauty, your strength
And your indelible spirit
I tell you that you are enough
I see you - I hear you - I believe in you

I sit here holding space
As you speak of your weakness
Body limp, discouraged, broken
I see how special you are
in the way only you can be
I remind you that you are enough
I see you - I hear you - I believe in you

I sit here holding space
As you unfold before my eyes
A tentative expression of self-love
I see your compassion, your wisdom
And your increasing self-acceptance
You tell me - I am enough
I see me - I hear me - I am learning to believe

I sit here holding space
While you speak of love and belonging
Voice clear, unwavering, empowered
I see your courage, your determination
Your awakening
You exude a quiet confidence
Grounded in knowing you are worthy and you are enough

I sit in quiet reverence
Humbled and inspired as I watch you rise
into the fullness of who you are
As I witness you find your way
to your own belonging
At home in love

I’m deeply honoured and grateful to be nominated for the Breathe Fire Award at the Women of Influence Awards Gala happening February 11, 2026.

This award honours someone who has overcome adversity and turned their pain into pearls. To be known as a fire-breather is to have a sense of purpose and instil hope in oneself and humanity.

To be seen in this way means so much to me. My own journey of discovering self-worth, self-love, and self-compassion fuels my passion to help others do the same.

My focus on empowering women stems from my belief that when women remember who they are, they become forces of beauty, courage, and love and I believe our world needs that energy more than ever.

Every day, I’m inspired by the women in my personal life, my professional life, and by those I have the privilege to sit with as they heal, embrace their inner wisdom, light and love, and radiate that back into their families and communities.

By accepting this nomination and allowing myself to be seen, my hope is to give other women permission to honour their strength, celebrate their becoming, and let their voices be heard.

I remain committed to sharing messages that awaken, uplift, and call women home to their power.
