🪵 Carving with Heart: The Creative Journey of Gary Smith 🕊️

We’re thrilled to share the story of Gary Smith, a passionate wood carver whose retirement hobby has blossomed into something truly meaningful. After decades of shaping wood with care and intention, Gary now creates “comfort birds” and other carvings that are sold to support Hospice and the Nanaimo Regional Hospital Foundation. His work is a beautiful reminder that creativity knows no age.

Gary lives at Origin at Longwood, where the support and sense of community continue to fuel his artistic journey. He carves five days a week, letting the wood’s grain guide each creation. From a “road runner” tribute to his cherished dragon piece, his approach is both intuitive and deeply personal.

✨ From October 1 through late October, visit Origin at Longwood to see a special exhibit of these take-home carvings created by Gary and many other talented carvers. A portion (20% up to 100%) of each sale goes to the Nanaimo Regional Hospital Foundation – art with a cause.✨
