This is my post here, then below it you will see my response to the post by Moms Stop the Harm, which does not make sense to me.
Here is my first post:
As you know, thousands of people of all ages are addicted and dying from street and prescription drugs. Each year it is getting worse! Most of what has been done so far to stop it is NOT working! There Needs To Be A Better, Stronger, LONG RANGE PLAN! If they don't want help, find out why. They may have tried to quit on their own, but went through withdrawal, which can be violent nausea, vomiting, muscle spasms, bone pain, hot and cold sweats and chills, severe tremors and seizures. They need to know that someone cares about them... that they will help them get off the addictive drugs; that IV medications will eliminate withdrawal and cravings, keep them calm and relaxed, and cleanse (detox) the addictive chemicals out of their system; that they will have 24-hour 1:1 supervision to assure that they are safe and staying settled. If they still refuse treatment ....find out why...include their family and / or friends to give them love and support. If they still refuse but are at risk of overdosing and dying, force them into detox. If they have been 'a dealer' or committed crimes to "feed" their habit, and refuse treatment, put them in jail and force them into detox. Then start them on Methadone or Suboxone and keep them on it for a couple of years until they are settled and doing well. Meanwhile give them whatever support they need - food, shelter, group sessions to teach them how to get rid of the negative thoughts, habits and triggers, how to prevent relapse, and strong skills and positive ways to deal with the stress of everyday life....and give them regular follow-up monitoring and support until they are doing well. Teach them skills so they can get a job or keep busy -such as gardening, caring for animals, helping others, THEN instead of being 'hooked' on street drugs or "hooked on" Methadone or Suboxone for the next 20 or 30 years...GRADUALLY WEAN THEM OFF METHADONE OR SUBOXONE until they are settled, doing well and no longer addicted to anything!! They will be more receptive of all of this IF THEY KNOW THE LONG RANGE PLAN AT THE BEGINNING, so they have a goal, to be FREE OF ADDICTION For The Rest of Their Life!! Then they can look in the mirrior and be proud of the person they see!
