Such a meaningful evening at VIU Students’ Union 🕯️

Thank you so much for inviting me to lead Creative Connections as part of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence. The students brought so much heart, curiosity, and creativity to the table, and it was an honour to hold space for connection, expression, and community care.

I am a Certified Expressive Arts Therapist and Registered Therapeutic Counsellor with ACCT (Association of Canadian Counsellors and Therapists of Canada).

Creative Connection: An Expressive Arts Therapy Workshop

November 25th marks the start of 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence and VIUSU wants to make sure you have a space to process, reflect and express yourself.

What to expect:
✨Creative invitations around self reflection and themes
✨Collaged focused process for self expression
✨Opportunity for connection with self and community
✨A dedicated 60min to slow down and replenish

This is why they will be hosting Creative Connection, an expressive arts therapy based workshop led by myself and focused on community connection and individual processing.

The honouring of grief

I missed you quietly today. So quietly that no one noticed.

I missed you as I climbed out of bed and as I brushed my teeth; when I waited at the lights on the drive into work and as I heard the rain outside my window.

I missed you as I ordered lunch and as I kicked off my shoes when I got home; as I switched off the lights and climbed into bed for the night.

I missed you without tears or noise or fanfare.
But oh how I felt it.

I felt it in the morning, at lunchtime, in the evening and at night. I felt it as I woke, as I waited, as I worked. I felt it at home, on the road, in the light, in the dark, in the rain.

I felt it in every one of those moments, each one sitting heavier and heavier as the weight of me missing you kept growing and growing.

Yes, I missed you so quietly today.

But I felt it so loudly.

On route to meet with fellow eco-feminist and friend .a.wilkin reading a new book by one of my favourite authors

I have been deep diving into myth, personal archetype and the journey of being a woman at mid life work within my own creative practice the last few years. Some of which was featured at my recent installation at .coffeeco

The recent process of prepping and painting my homebase studio has deep, ended this through listening to audiobooks during the process.

I’m not sure yet of how all of this is going to influence the way I work with clients yet however I can feel it calling me to pay attention. I continue to exist in the liminal space and be curious.

A PERSONAL PROCESS 🤲🏻

As an Expressive Arts Therapist, I prioritize time within my week for my own art making process. I have recently installed an arts based body of work offering a snapshot into my own personal process up at White Rabbit Coffee Co. (.coffeeco) until July 30th.

Many parts are interactive and invites the viewer to explore and be curious. You will notice that there are certain colors, shapes, symbols, sounds and gestures that speak to me. These may be something I explore for a reason, season or lifetime and within some of the displayed processes I offer you an opportunity to witness my relationship to them and them to me. The process of art making provides as opportunity for the subconscious to meet the conscious within the art itself. This process may also lead to moments of healing, greater understanding of self, have elements of surprise, and support self discovery.

The intention of the installation is to offer insight into what Expressive Arts Therapy is, what ways one may discover support through creatives expression and how the overall process is client centred (unique or personal to them).
