Often, people with hearing loss think that their hearing loss only impacts them. In reality, hearing loss impacts everyone around you! Missing words in conversations, having to ask for repetition, or withdrawing from social engagements due to difficulties with communication can impact your friends and family as much as it impacts you!

Recently, a patient was discussing the holidays, Christmas shopping, and all things festive. He mentioned that everyone chooses how they want to spend their money; some people want the latest cell phone, dine out frequently, take vacations routinely, whereas some pinch their pennies to save up for something special.

Then he shared something exceptional. He mentioned, “It’s hard for me to think people expect hearing aids to be ‘cheap’. They are medical devices that give you the gift of hearing better.”

If only all people saw hearing aids this way. Today I challenge you to think about what price you would put on your hearing. What would you feel like if you woke up tomorrow unable to hear clearly? Unable to converse with your family, perform daily tasks at work, or hear friends at the holiday happy hour.

I will tell you that hearing aids are life changing for those who need them. They open the door to communication, friendship, and possibility. And that is PRICELESS.

Often when you see pictures of hearing aids in the news, you see large, bulky devices🦻. In reality, hearing aids are small and can fit in your ear or behind your ear in such a way that they are not noticeable at all! 🧐 Most of the time, people wouldn’t even know you’re wearing a hearing aid unless you tell them.

Did you know that the name December comes from the Latin word, decem, which means ten? This is because even though December is our 12th month, it was originally the 10th month in the Roman calendar!

The Roman calendar started with March and ended with December - they didn’t even count the winter period that became known as January and February because those months were not active for the military or agriculture.

In the hearing world, we use a measurement of loudness called decibels (dB). This measurement received its name because it is a relative unit of measurement equal to one tenth of a bel (B). But don't worry, we won't quiz you! Just know we use it to measure loudness of sound!

It has been reported that only 1 in every 7 people with hearing loss wear hearing aids🦻. On average, people wait 10 years between when they first notice difficulties with hearing and when they decide to be fit with hearing aids.
