We were proud to acknowledge the conspicuous and long service for many of our dedicated volunteers at St. John House in Nanaimo recently.
At the September 15 training evening, Breanna Murphy, Area Commissioner-Island, presented Nanaimo volunteer, Arlene Berube, with the 30 year gilt bar to the Service Medal of the Most Venerable Order of St. John of Jerusalem. Nanaimo Divisional Superintendent, Sean McCue, was awarded another silver bar to the Service Medal of the Most Venerable Order of St. John of Jerusalem for twenty years of service.
Murphy also presented certificates to Nanaimo members for surpassing milestones in voluntary community service. Most notable was Wayne Hartley, with 7,000 hours completed. Also awarded certificates were Sean McCue 2,500 hours, Ken Welte 1,000 hours, Ian Perry 500 hours, Laura Welte 500 hours, Kylen Glass 500 hours and Aaron Cunningham 250 hours. Receiving 100 hours of voluntary community service certificates were Gwen Mollins and Siana Brownlee.
Two members attending from Cowichan were also recognized for their service. Christopher Parry was presented a certificate for 4,500 hours and Donna Ludvig - Turner was recognized for 2,000 hours of voluntary service.
In addition, Murphy also promoted two Nanaimo members. Laura Welte, the administration officer, was promoted to Divisional Officer 2. Also promoted was Kylen Glass, the community services coordinator, to Divisional Officer 2.
