At the Drop In Hub, we often see how small moments of support can lead to meaningful change.

Kevin has been a guest of the Hub for some time and has been open about his journey with addiction and searching for purpose. Recently, he’s been spending his days cleaning the sidewalks along Nicol Street and Victoria Street, sharing that access to basic tools through the Hub made it possible for him to do so.

What means the most to Kevin is the feeling of giving back. He’s shared how good it feels when community members stop to thank him, reminding him that he’s making a positive impact. Kevin is working toward being substance free and hopes to continue being an active, contributing part of the community.

Stories like Kevin’s highlight why having spaces like the Drop In Hub matters. When people are supported, they find ways to reconnect, contribute, and move forward.

"A coalition made up of more than 20 operators in says they’re seeing a trend of closures for and other units, and are calling on the province and municipalities to take action.
After sitting at the Royal Athletic Parking lot for years, Victoria’s shipping container community called Caledonia Place will close down in 2026.
...In Nanaimo, Nikao Housing — another shipping container community — is also facing the threat of closure. Pacifica Housing, which operates Nikao Housing, says they were told by the City that it would end the lease next year.
...In an open letter, Ibarra and 21 other housing operators across B.C. say they’re seeing a worrying trend of supportive housing, temporary housing, and emergency shelters closing with no alternative solutions in their place.
The group — which calls itself the BC Coalition for Safe and Sustainable Supportive Housing (SaSSH) — says that the province and all municipalities need to take action.
“The false belief driving these decisions—that shutting down temporary housing or blocking emergency shelters will reduce —is not supported by evidence,” reads the letter."

Today marks the beginning of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, an annual international campaign that runs from November 25 (International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) to December 10 (Human Rights Day).
This global movement calls on individuals, organizations, and communities to take action and raise awareness about gender-based violence, including violence against women, girls, and gender-diverse people.

Gender-based violence shows up in many forms — physical, emotional, sexual, financial, digital, and more. It can happen in homes, workplaces, online spaces, and in public. For many, it is not only a personal issue, but a systemic one rooted in inequality and discrimination.

By speaking up, sharing resources, supporting survivors, and challenging harmful attitudes, we can contribute to real and lasting change.
Everyone deserves to live free from violence, judgment, and fear. ✊🧡
