"It's the Museum of Me," shares Margaret, a resident at Atria El Camino Gardens, as she gives a tour of her apartment. "I’ve been a collector of moments and things; each piece reflects a chapter of my story," she adds. "My favorite keepsake is a picture of me at three years old."

Life has taken her from Jamaica to Mexico, Tahiti and beyond. "I've got a vase from Japan that’s been with me for 30 years. Every item reminds me to appreciate what’s given out of love, not obligation."

Even the smallest treasures hold meaning. "This is me," she adds with a smile.

“It felt unusual, in a good way, to celebrate my 100th birthday with friends and neighbors around me," shares Lydia. "I’m a quiet person, but I’ve made many friends at Atria Golden Creek.”

With this major milestone under her belt, she is more than qualified to give younger generations a piece of advice. "Stay active, stay away from drugs and alcohol, and love something – nature, music, anything. Just love something.”

Speaking of staying active and loving nature, you can find Lydia out and about daily, enjoying the grounds of Golden Creek. “My favorite thing about living here is the walking program. We are lucky to be between two lakes, with a creek walk right next to our building. We go to the lakes and watch the birds, ducks and geese – and that makes me very happy.”

Meet one of Atria's resident ambassadors, Arlette!

Before moving to Atria Cary, Arlette had never picked up a paintbrush. Thanks to the guidance of one of her fellow residents who leads painting classes twice a week, she discovered a passion for art she never knew she had.

Known throughout the community for her signature purple hair, Arlette is a familiar face at Cary activities and events. As an ambassador, she is always eager to welcome and connect with new residents.

Last Saturday night, the residents were thrilled to witness a 5-3 victory by the Nanaimo Clippers while attending the game in the VIP Suite! We enjoyed the warmth and comfort of the suite, along with pizza, beverages, and a special visit from the Clippers SuperFan.

A big thank you to our Bus Driver of the Year, D'Arcy, for taking time away from his family to make this wonderful evening happen for our residents. Go Clippers!

The little bake sale that DID!

We are deeply grateful to everyone who helped make our recent sale such a meaningful success. Thanks to the incredible generosity of our residents, their families, and the wider community, we raised over $700 in support of an initiative that truly matters. This achievement would not have been possible without your kindness, encouragement, and belief in the cause.

Every contribution—whether through purchasing items, donating, or simply spreading the word—brings us one step closer to our shared goal: supporting a seniors-only emergency room. Our seniors deserve care that is compassionate, specialized, and designed with their unique needs in mind. Making this vision a reality will be our focus throughout the year.

This sale is just the beginning. We have several fundraising events planned in the months ahead and will continue to create opportunities for our community to come together in support of this important cause. For those who wish to contribute at any time, donations are always welcome and deeply appreciated.

We look forward to sharing updates on our progress and celebrating what we can accomplish together. Thank you for standing with us, for caring so deeply about our seniors, and for helping turn compassion into action.

Join us as we come together to support something truly special — BC’s first and only Senior Friendly Emergency Room. This cause is close to the heart, because our seniors deserve care that is compassionate, dignified, and designed with their unique needs in mind, especially in moments of vulnerability and crisis.

By taking part in this sale, you are helping create a safer, more understanding emergency experience for the people who paved the way for us. Every contribution, no matter the size, helps ensure our seniors receive the respect, patience, and specialized care they deserve when they need it most. Each box is $10.00.

There are many ways to be involved. Stop by the sale and treat yourself to as many sweet treats as you’d like, donate items to be sold, or drop off a cash donation. Each act of generosity directly supports this vital initiative and makes a real difference in the lives of seniors and their families.

First we had Pharmacist, Sneh, from Best Value Pharmacy on site giving information on Blood Pressure and how to use your personal cuff and record your results. Then we had Digital Handyman, Jacob, in the community to help with and inform our residents about on their digital equipment.
