The quickest way to feel centered is to take a few deep breaths and focus for a moment on how the people who have filled your bucket have left a trace of energy in your cells, memories. Allow yourself to reconnect to that wealth of support and like Maya says carry it with you.

Do this today as an experiment and let me know in the comments what was the outcome.

Blessings,
Julie

No Qigong in the Park this morning.

Another soggy morning is nature’s very pointed reminder that I need to spend some time reflecting on the wider perspective. When I think about bigger and global (yes, my brain works in weird ways) I learned that Nanton shares its latitude with cities like Vancouver, Brussels, and Prague, and this year our summer is a wet reflection of their long daylight hours, steady rain, and lush green spaces.

My thoughts wander to shared experiences in those places. Summer markets, outdoor music, gardening and fruit trees full of bounty and millions of people going about their daily routines. Here in Nanton this rain has created beautifully green lawns and less municipal water notices and a direct change in our established routines.

Just like our own systems and energy we can experience episodes that have us saying “where did this come from?” This summer for me personally has seen changes and growth. Renovations that were planned and unplanned. Summer school break plans pruned to the bone and unexpected growth are visible daily. From a lush garden to a sprouting son who seems to grow taller after a single night of sleep to task lists that seem to get longer than an upcoming election ballot.

Nature’s, universal and personal rhythms clash when we try too hard to maintain daily routines that worked in previous seasons but don’t consider current energy around us. I am guilty of this too and the urge to just grit my teeth and power through has run smack up against years of practicing harmony to balancing Qi. The result is feeling like tasks slipping through fingers or going undone, decision paralysis and need for more naps.

So, time to start relying less on internal energy stores and more time practicing what I preach.

• Blocking time in the day to sit in quiet for a few minutes, practice Qigong twice daily in short sessions
• Reach out to friends for a tea break
• Remind myself of the acronym W.A.I.T. (why am I talking)
• Spend some time journalling so the lessons of this summer don’t get lost
• Enjoy warm/hot liquids and foods, less cold

These steps will bring alignment with this summer’s rhythms just in time for the festivities of Nanton’s Round Up Days and transitioning into late summer.

Whatever you are doing this week I hope you take a few moments to reflect on how you are coping with these seasonal/weather changes and your perspective on what steps you need to make your self care get in sync so that you may thrive not just survive. Let me know what strategies work for you in the comments below.

Blessings,
Julie

Good Morning, It's still a little wet out to be sitting and meditating so no class today but I did want to leave you with an option/homework :)

Why a gentle rain walk can charge Your Qi (and why you should skip the thunderstorm)

Feeling cooped up. Is the rain bringing thoughts of wow my lawn looks great, but the overcast grey is starting to get repetitive. It might be time to flip the perspective and see the hidden health benefits of a walk in a rainfall has.

Here’s how Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and the modern practice of Forest Bathing line up on the subject:

TCM Take on Soft Rain

• Nourishes Yin & Lung Qi - Misty droplets moisten the Lungs; the organ system tied to immunity and emotional clarity in TCM.
• Dispels Mild “Wind-Heat”; cool drizzle helps release built-up internal heat and calm restless thoughts.
• Grounds the Shen (Spirit); the sound acts like rhythmic acupuncture for the mind, easing anxiety.

Forest Bathing Bonus

Aerosolized phytoncides (natural plant compounds) in damp air can lower cortisol and boost natural killer cell activity; modern science confirming what sages called “vital essence” in fresh woodland qi.

Combats overwhelm, the muted light & sound after rainfall dial down sensory overload, sharpening focus and creativity.

But What About Thunderstorms?

From a TCM lens, sudden bursts of Wind, Cold, and Damp, plus jarring thunder is thought to scatter Qi and provoke headaches or joint pain. Add the very real lightning risk, and the verdict is clear:

Gentle rain = healing ritual / Thunderstorm = time for tea indoors

Tips

• Wait for light, steady rain (no lightning alerts).
• Dress in breathable layers; keep neck & feet warm to guard against damp.
• Walk slowly, breathe through the nose, notice scents, colors, and sounds, this is your mini Shinrin yoku session.
• End with a towel dry and a quick rub of hands over face and a cup of warm ginger tea to seal in all the goodness.

Good morning everyone, due to the somewhat soggy nature of our weather my Qigong in the Park class this morning is canceled. Crossing fingers next Monday brings bright skies and return to warmth.

I get asked alot about what I do and always looking for poetic but consise ways to explain Qigong. I stumbled upon Master Lin's explanation and it resonates.

"Qigong is an ancient Chinese scientific study of the power of Qi in the body and the universe; and how to use this power to benefit all aspects of lives."

I want you to think about that today and remember a time when you felt good even invincible for no reason in particular.

When Qi flows naturally through our body devoid of blockages we feel lighter in body, mind and spirit. We may not notice the subtleties but they are there. In our body; we breathe deeper, there is more spring in our step. In our mind; we find less fault with ourselves (negative self talk is tuned down) and others, we gossip less and find more positive things to focus on. In spirit; we feel a closer connection to God, source, universe and we feel stronger in our connection to earth and others around us. Words like content, peace and possibility seem more natural and solid.

I want you to think about how being in this state every day (maybe for hours or minutes) would change you? How would it impact your relationships, work and outlook on life.

If you are still reading this and you have joined me in Qigong practice please leave a comment for others to read. Let them know how it makes you feel when you add this mindfulness practice to your routine.

Blessings,
Julie
