⚠️ Drug Safety Alert – Kingston
Our Consumption and Treatment Services (CTS) site recently tested a community-submitted sample expected to be co***ne. Lab results revealed it contained fluorofentanyl, M**A, medetomidine, ketamine, caffeine, and phenacetin – no co***ne was detected.
These substances can cause life-threatening respiratory suppression, hallucinations, paranoia, psychosis, confusion, disorientation, sedation, and memory loss. Impaired judgment and sensory distortion may also increase the risk of assault or injury.
Southeast Public Health urges anyone using substances to:
* Avoid using alone. About 75% of opioid-related deaths occur when no one is present. If you do use alone, have someone check in on you or a safety plan.
* Use with a friend or family member, in person or virtually; stagger use if both are using.
* Use a supervised consumption service:
In-person: CTS, 661 Montreal Street, Kingston (drug checking available)
Virtually: National Overdose Response Service (NORS) – 1-888-688-NORS (6677)
* Avoid combining drugs or alcohol.
* Go slow – unregulated drug quality is unpredictable.
* Carry naloxone and get free training; consider multiple doses.
* Call 911 immediately if you suspect poisoning.
If you have friends or family who use drugs, please share this safety information with them.
