It’s time for a break!

Every once in a while I like to delete all social apps off my devices and give myself some much needed space from the online world!

I am working on some stuff here that’s really exciting and so I will be back! My goal is for January 2026.

I love this work and love thinking about fun posts, but sometimes I need take my own advice, which is to let myself have a break and focus energy on new creative projects!

Social anxiety can make even simple interactions feel overwhelming. The fear of being judged or misunderstood can keep us from connecting the way we want to.

In art therapy, creativity becomes a bridge when words feel too hard. The process of creating art offers a safe, non-verbal way to express what’s beneath the surface, ease the nervous system, and explore feelings of judgment with curiosity instead of fear.

Over time, this creative practice can help build confidence, compassion, and trust in yourself and in your relationships with others.

✨ You get to show up as you are. No judgment, just gentle exploration.

If social anxiety has been holding you back, art therapy can be a supportive space to start reconnecting with yourself and with others.

🎨 reminder that social media is not a replacement for therapy. I post content for educational and entertainment purposes only. Please reach out to a trusted practitioner if you are needing support.

The job of prep for an art therapist 😂

There are so many things that go on behind the scenes of an art therapist’s job that some people might wonder about. Sometimes that can be fun, I love cutting out images and testing for that right slime recipe. But everything is done with the intention that we are creating space for our clients!

We might spend hours cutting out the perfect collage images

We test art directives before we introduce them to our clients

We read books that are filled with research for our clients

We test new materials so we know how to use them so we can answer clients questions about them

We go outside collecting natural and found materials

And more!

I will note this is a joke, I haven’t had anyone ask me if what I am doing is actually work 😂 just turns out I enjoy it!

Naming your emotions.

You might have heard this one before. There are actually a lot of studies on it, that naming our emotions reduce the feeling of that emotion. We make it feel seen, we acknowledge it.

It’s easier said than done. So here’s an art activity to help you through that process. Remember, there is no wrong way to do this.

Check in with your body, what feels tense, light, soft, heavy?
Choose colours that reflect those feelings.
Move those colours across the page
Add any elements that will make your art feel complete
Reflect on the emotion that comes up
When you’re ready, name it.

You can also spend some time journaling about the experience and see what comes up for you.

I’m thinking about today and how we have all heard the results of an election in Ontario. Elections can be hard on our nervous system and there can be a confusing amount of different emotions. I’m hoping to all those who need to that you’re able to take the time to take care of those emotions today.

Kids when they find the glitter on the art therapy shelves.

I managed to look pretty serious in this real 😂

Glitter is one of the most popular items that I have on my shelves. As much as I would love to let everyone has free creativity with, it is one of the few items I set some boundaries with! Glitter gets everywhere, and while my space is welcome to get messy, our homes can be a little different. So I always ask that when using glitter we just “take what we need”.

But who doesn’t love some glitter? When was the last time you enjoyed some glitter?

Did you know you can use ART in therapy?? ✨🎨

First off, I love TALK therapy. I see a talk therapist myself at this stage in my life 🤷‍♀️

Therapy isn’t one size fits all. There are so many different types of therapy out there and it can feel really overwhelming sometimes to find something that fits for YOU.

That’s why I like to spread of the word of art therapy 🎨

Art therapists use art in their sessions. You get to create as a way to communicate and express yourself. Through paint, imagery, sculpting, stitching, whatever calls to you.

My name is Connor and I am an art therapist who works with women who are feeling anxious, lost and burnout in adulthood. 👋

We use art together as a way to explore these themes creatively.
