AUTHENTIC MOVEMENT is staying present with deep listening to our body/mind interplay with a shared presence of a witness. This strengthens our unconditional commitment to staying present. In this regard Authentic movement unfolds our intimate relational presence within ourselves and with another.

MEDITATION invites us to let down the barriers of mind, however slightly, by degrees, breath by breath, moment by moment, creating a relational field of presence. Mindfulness develops by degrees, and by degrees we experience what it means to stay in the freshness of the moment by moment present.
Working through the barriers that arise takes us beyond the wishful thinking of short-cuts, magic tricks, or a "fix-me" agenda type approach. Going through what arises, no matter what, we allow ourselves to cultivate an experience of compassionate presence.

TRAUMA WORK IN MINDFULNESS AND MOVEMENT PRACTICES For some people who have been traumatized, practicing meditation alone and/or without proper guidance can lead to fear, confusion and shame. Mindfulness practices can unleash buried emotions. On the other hand, trauma-induced defenses against raw feelings may impede a meditator's ability to focus attention or contact places of wounding. In either case, meditation can feel unsafe, discouraging, or outright impossible, creating a sense of personal failure. Tara Brach /Buddhist teacher and Psychologist

Guidance in somatic based therapy such as Authentic Movement can provide a safe container for processing memories and associated feelings that arise in consciousness.
