A couple of weeks ago, we shared with you the story of S: a lovely lady in her 80s unable to care for her own feet. Having not been able to care for her feet herself, her nails had grown overly long and were causing pressure, this pressure directly caused her pain, which limited her ability to walk and perform daily hobbies.

During her foot care appointments, our Foot Care RN, Tyler assesses her foot areas of concern: nail length, nail thickness, the quality of debris under the nails and any areas of redness. Checking the length and thickness of her nails help Tyler decide how to trim and treat each nail to prevent further pain as they regrow. The thickness of the nail and the quality of the debris under the nails, helps our FCN Tyler identify or rule out nail fungus affecting any toe nails. Areas of redness around our nails indicate pressure, where the nail presses against the skin around our nails which can cause pain too.

To finish her appointment our specialty RN checks in with S to make sure she feels her feet are feeling better and pain free. Foot lotion is then applied with light massage and the treatment plan is reviewed. Read the blog...
