10 Things Dr. Kiara Has Learned in 1 Year of Practiceâ¨
1) The nervous system is central to health.â¨It influences almost everythingâdonât underestimate what your body may be holding onto.
2) Meet patients where they are.â¨Even the best treatment plan wonât work if it doesnât align with someoneâs readiness and lifestyle. Patient-driven care is key.
3) Patients are the experts of their own bodies.â¨Iâve learned immensely from listening to patients and their experiences.
4) Healing isnât linear.â¨There are ebbs and flows, but progress still happens. Setbacks arenât failuresâtheyâre part of the journey.
5) Small changes add up.â¨Simple shiftsâlike more protein, extra water, or regular bowel movementsâcan create meaningful, tangible results.
6) Self-care is essential, not selfish.â¨You canât pour from an empty cup. Prioritizing your well-being supports both you and your patients.
7) Gratitude fuels growth.â¨Every patient, mentor, and success reminds me why I chose this path. Being part of someoneâs healing journey is a privilege.
8) Blood work is invaluable.â¨Collaborating with family doctors to review labs (Vitamin D, B12, iron, and more) uncovers deficiencies that can be missed but are critical to restoring health.
9) Trauma affects the body in ways we donât always recognize.
When the nervous system holds on to past stress or emotional pain, it can show up as digestive challenges, sleep issues, or fatigue. As Bessel van der Kolk reminds us in The Body Keeps the Score, âTrauma is stored in the body; healing begins when we listen.â
10) Humility matters.â¨Itâs okay to not have all the answers. Curiosity, collaboration, and openness are strengths in practice and in life. We learn from what we donât know.
