Are you wondering what treatment you want to book for your next appointment: Cupping? Guasha? Or Tuina?
The answer to this question is not simple.
first, let’s compare cupping and gua sha: Gua sha is a treatment very similar to cupping and works on the same basis. Both treatments are performed to relieve the stagnation of qi.
Cupping involves placing cups on the skin to create suction, and the suction increases blood circulation to the area.
During gua sha, a flat smooth tool is used to gently scrape the tissues and muscles to break down muscle adhesions and help fresh blood flow.
Cupping should be applied in an area with abundant muscles like the back, abdomen, thighs, and legs.
On the other hand, gua sha can be used both on the muscular area like the back and shoulders and on areas with tiny muscles like the neck and face as well as joints.
I find both techniques to serve as a diagnostic tool and a treatment based on how the tissue responds. In my opinion, if you have tension & tightness in the back of your head and neck, book in for a gua sha treatment, but if you have shoulder, lower back & hip pain, cupping is a better choice for you.
▶️On the other hand, Tui na is a Chinese massage that stimulates the flow of qi to promote balance and harmony within the body using many of the same principles of acupuncture.
▶️ The goal of tuina massage is to create harmony in the body's yin and yang by removing blockages and disturbances that manifest as illness, disease, and emotional issues.
▶️ Also, passive joint movements are used to restore muscles and joint function.
▶️Tuina massage can be used to treat pain and illness or to maintain good health.
✅️ The technique is effective in reducing stress, encouraging relaxation, and deepening sleep. It’s often used for conditions and injuries related to the musculoskeletal and nervous systems.
✅️Tuina massage is often used to improve function and reduce pain affecting the joints, bones, and muscles.
✅️If you have headaches (migraine or tension headache), stress & anxiety, fatigue, insomnia, and musculoskeletal disorders, it is better to book both treatments of acupuncture and tui na to address these issues.
