November is Movember! It is an opportunity for people and communities to unite behind men’s mental health and su***de prevention. Movember is the perfect opportunity to connect with the fathers, brothers, sons, and other men in your life about mental health. Use the four simple steps of ALEC to reach out today:
💬Ask how they’re feeling and mention any changes you’ve picked up on. “You haven’t seemed yourself lately – are you feeling OK?”
👂Listen with your full attention, you hear them, and that you aren’t judging them. “That can't be easy – how long have you felt this way?”
📣Encourage action by helping them focus on simple things that might improve how they feel. Are they getting enough sleep? What has helped them in the past? Suggest they reach out to those they trust.
🫶Check in by suggesting you catch up soon - in person if you can. This helps show that you care and you can get a sense of how they’re feeling.
At Newcastle Counselling Services we welcome everyone at any stage in their mental health journey. We provide individual, family, and couples counselling, in person and online, to children, teens and adults. We offer a non-judgmental safe space to explore your mental health needs at your own pace. Our therapists will collaborate with you to develop a treatment plan to help you reach your mental health goals in a safe and supportive environment.
