Emily Piercey RMT, FST Registered Massage Therapist and Fascial Stretch Therapist working out of Hands On Health Care Massage Therapy Clinic in Newmarket, ON.

Emily utilizes thorough assessments and individualized treatments to form goal-oriented treatment plans I am a recent honours graduate from Georgian College's fast track massage therapy program, and registered with the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario. During my time at Georgian, I obtained hands on experience in a variety of different areas of massage including: pre-natal care, infant and youth massage, palliative care, geriatrics, fibromyalgia, arthritis and sports massage. With a personal focus on clinical assessment and rehabilitation from various injuries, I believe every treatment should be individualized to meet the client's goals. The Ontario Government has provided a new directive for Regulated Health Professionals that allows for a gradual re-open of some services. RMT’s were included in this directive and I would like to provide some clarity on what this means for me and my practice.

I want to clarify that this announcement was a general statement which means not all Regulated Health Professionals will be opening at the same time or at the same rate (or at all, for now).

At this time, our College, the CMTO has provided clear direction on limiting the number of in-person visits by prioritizing clients with essential care needs.

My first priority as an RMT is the health and safety of my clients, myself and my family, and to ensure that the benefits of receiving treatment outweigh the potential risks. I will continue to update you all further when I can foresee a potential date to begin reopening my books. At this time, I will be taking the next two weeks to stay up to date with the rate of infection in our community and the Province as a whole as I work hard to create a comprehensive back-to-practice plan and wait on mandatory PPE to arrive.

I will re-assess the risks associated with reopening my practice at that time. If an emergency occurs that puts you in a position of requiring urgent care, please email me. Otherwise, I will be reaching out to clients on a case-by-case basis to book appointments.

I want to thank you for remaining patient as I continue to work towards the implementation of these guidelines to ensure your safety, as it is my top priority. I will keep everyone posted when I have a definitive re-open date.

Please keep in mind I am still offering virtual appointments! This is an excellent alternative to in-person treatments while I gradually resume operations.

Thank you again for all of your support during this time, I look forward to reconnecting with my clients when I am able to. I hope everyone remains safe & healthy!

With the strong recommendation by the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario to cease all “non-essential” treatments, I will be closing down temporarily.
-
I feel it is my responsibility as a healthcare professional in our community to protect those who are vulnerable, and to limit the potential spread of COVID-19.
-
This is a very strange and scary time for everyone. Let’s be kind to one another ♥️
-
*tentative re-open date is March 30th. If you have an appointment scheduled on or after March 30th, it still stands! I will be in touch closer to the date to confirm.

GET UP AND M O V E.
I’ve spent the better part of this afternoon sitting down doing boring business things so I needed a quick movement break.
My thoracic spine was begging for some rotation (as most T-spines are) so that’s what I gave it!
I encourage my clients to take 10 minutes (at least!) every day and move in a way that feels good. That might mean a walk, some yoga, dancing, or whatever! It’s important to take the time for yourself and move in an authentic way to yourself.
“Health” and “fitness” doesn’t just mean going to the gym. It’s listening to your yourself and doing things that make your mind and body feel ✨g o o d✨
What’s your favourite way to move?!

FASCIAL STRETCH THERAPY!
What is it? It’s a series of assisted stretches that makes you feel ahhh-mazing.
Here’s a (time lapsed) sample of what an hour long FST session can look like.
Throughout the treatment there is constant assessment and re-assessment to figure out what needs to be stretched, and what needs to be stabilized.
I’ll be making a post soon about all the benefits of FST and why I incorporate it into many of my massage treatments.
Questions? Drop them below! Or DM me! I love to chat!

Happy long weekend! ☀️

I’ve been enjoying this beautiful weather by taking a hike in the forest🌳

I challenged myself today by running up every hill and sprinting the last bit of the hike 🏃🏻‍♀️

What’s your favourite way to stay active?

INTUITIVE•CURIOUS•INTENTIONAL

These are the 3 words that come to mind when I think of myself as a massage therapist.

A client of mine mentioned that I am intentional in my treatments and home care recommendations and that meant a lot to me. My goal is always to be open and curious and treat every person as an individual, not give “one size fits all” recommendations or treatments.

Speaking of curious- I’m reading this book called “You Don’t Need a Hysterectomy” all about chronic pelvic pain. Not necessarily in my scope of practice, but I am curious about pelvic health and a little knowledge never hurt anybody!

What are YOU curious about???

So I’ve been having a hard time. A hard time making posts, creating content, being inspired. This might be obvious from the clear lack of posts on my Instagram.
Yesterday, I sat down with a really good friend and had a great brainstorming session about my career, social media, and getting inspired. She lit a fire under me and now I can’t stop writing down my ideas for the future! It feels so good to be excited again.
Maybe you can relate to this feeling. Not so much being in a “rut”, but maybe lacking inspiration. What do I do? Brainstorm and READ! Learning something new is my favourite way to get inspired.
I’m not going to promise to be a social media queen, but I will promise to share my knowledge and continue to be curious and open to continuous learning.
