Caregivers need more than gratitude — they need real, practical support.

I had the privilege of attending Partnering for Care: Building Stronger Systems for Caregivers in Niagara Falls, supported by Heart Niagara and the Niagara Ontario Health Team - Équipe Santé Ontario Niagara. It was a truly powerful and moving gathering focused on turning conversation into action.

We spoke openly about the realities caregivers face — balancing work (or stepping away from it entirely), protecting their own health, and managing daily responsibilities while navigating complex systems during times of crisis.

The focus was on solutions: protected leave, mental health supports, respite, better coordination of services, clearer pathways, and stronger community collaboration.

At Cavendish Manor, we see every day how deeply families show up for one another. When we support caregivers, we strengthen our entire community.

I am grateful for the opportunity to attend this important event and look forward to the next steps as ideas begin to turn into action.

🌍 Black History Month at Cavendish Manor

A heartfelt thank you to Lilian Lum for her beautiful and deeply meaningful presentation in celebration of Black History Month.

Lilian shared stories from her home country of Cameroon, offering residents a glimpse into her culture, traditions, and the deep connection between family, land, and life. We were especially touched learning about the tradition of planting a newborn’s umbilical cord in the soil of a plantain tree — symbolizing belonging, ancestry, and the lifelong bond between a person and their homeland.

It was a powerful reminder of the circle of life, community, and how culture carries wisdom across generations.

Chinese Lunar New Year celebration at Cavendish Manor 🧧

We enjoyed a vibrant lion dance, an impressive kung fu presentation, and our residents loved participating in the seated tai chi class.

A huge thank you to Sifu Atalick and the Niagara Kung Fu Academy — we are so grateful for this special cultural experience! 🏮✨
